Leon Errol ACTOR


Leon Errol was born on July 3rd, 1881 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia with the birth name Leonce Errol Simms.  He first became involved in the entertainment industry when he managed a traveling vaudeville troupe and when he relocated to the United States later on, he began performing in vaudeville and even had the opportunity to appear on Ziegfeld Follies on Broadway.
He continued to work as a stage performer as well as a director on Broadway for a number of years but also became involved in the film industry.  Beginning in 1923 his film resume would include over one hundred and fifty films.
He became best remembered for his two-reelers and his unique comedy type of performing.  He also played opposite Lupe Velez in the, "Mexican Spitfire" (1939-1943) features where he played the role of Uncle Matt and also a British nobleman, Lord Epping. 
Other roles he took throughout his career, were in the "Joe Palooka" sports comedies (1946-1950), "Service with a Smile" (1934), "Good Morning, Eve!" and "La Cucaracha", which were three Technicolor shorts.
As his career progressed he continued to appear in a number of shorts with RKO Pictures and his final film role was in, "Lord Epping Returns", where he brought back his character from Mexican Spitfire.
He married only one time very briefly to a lady by the name of Stella Chatelaine and they never had any children.  Errol passed away on October 12th, 1951 in Hollywood, California after suffering from a heart attack.  He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in California.
