LEO G. CARROLL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Leo G. Carroll was born on October 25th, 1886 in Weedon, England with the birth name Leo Gratten Carroll to parents William and Catherine Carroll. In 1912, he made his stage debut and then took a brief break from acting to serve during World War I.
After he finished his military service he returned back to acting and then began working on stage productions in London and soon was appearing on Broadway in such plays as, "The Green Bay Tree" and "Angel Street".
Carroll then decided to relocate to Hollywood and began working in the film industry. His film debut was on, "Sadie McKee" (1934) followed by appearances in such films as, "A Christmas Carol" (1938), "Wuthering Heights" (1939), "Father of the Bride" (1950), and "The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel" (1951).
Leo is most remembered for his role in six of the Alfred Hitchcock films, "Rebecca" (1940), "Suspicion" (1941), "Spellbound" (1945), "The Paradine Case" (1947), "Strangers on a Train" (1951) and "North by Northwest" (1959). He also had a recurring role on the television series, "Topper" (1953-1956) co-starring Robert Sterling and Anne Jeffreys and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." (1964-1968) co-starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.
Carroll married only one time throughout his life, to Edith Nancy de Silva in 1926 and they had one child together and remained married until he passed away on October 16th, 1972 in Hollywood, California after a bout from pneumonia due to him suffering from cancer. He was interred in the Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
