LEIF ERICKSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Leif Erickson was born on October 27th, 1911 in Alameda, California with the birth name William Wycliffe Anderson. His father worked as a commander of a fleet of ships and his mother was a newspaperwoman.
Erickson first became involved in the entertainment industry when he sang for a band and also began making a couple small stage appearances including vaudeville. When he first began working in the film industry he started with Westerns. He worked on a number of Larry 'Buster' Crabbe Westerns but then took a four year hiatus from the industry to serve during World War II.
Some of his other film appearances included roles in, "College Holiday" (1937), "Ride a Crooked Mile" (1938), "Sorry, wrong Number" (1948), "The Snake Pit" (1948), "Invaders from Mars" (1953), "Roustabout" (1964) starring Elvis Presley and Barbara Stanwyck and "The Carpetbaggers" (1964).
There was a brief time during the mid 60's that film roles were becoming less available and so to help support himself financially he worked as a yacht broker in Marina Del Rey in California.
Along with a decent film resume he made a number of television appearances on such series as, "The DuPont Show" (1959), "The Virginian" (1964-1965), "Daniel Boone" (1965-1966) and "The High Chaparral" (1967-1971). For the most part after 1977 Leif retired from the industry and only made a couple small appearances, with his last being in 1984 on, "Fantasy Island".
Leif Erickson married three times throughout his lifetime, his first wife was Frances Farmer whom he married on February 8th, 1936 and remained together until 1942. He then married, Margaret Hayes on June 12th, 1942 which was actually the same day his divorce finalized with his first wife, and they only stayed together until July 1942. His third and final marriage was to Anne Diamond in 1945 and they had two children together before their marriage too ended in divorce.
On January 29th, 1986 at the age of 74, Leif Erickson passed away from cancer in Pensacola, Florida.
