LEE REMICK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Lee Remick was born on December 14th, 1935 in Quincy, Massachusetts with the birth name Lee Ann Remick. Her mother, Margaret was an actress and her father, Francis owned a department store. Lee attended college at Barnard College studying acting and also took dance lessons at the Swaboda School of Dance. She also received some acting education at the Actors Studio.
When Lee began her stage career on the Broadway debut in, "Be Your Age" (1953). A couple years later her film debut was in, "A Face in the Crowd" (1957) starring Andy Griffith followed by, "The Long Hot Summer" (1958). It was her role in the film, "Anatomy of a Murder" (1959) starring James Stewart, Ben Gazzara, George C. Scott and Arthur O'Connell that really helped her reach the level of stardom she was seeking. She then won her first Academy Award for her role portraying a wife with an alcohol addiction in the film, "Days of Wine and Roses" (1962) also starring Jack Lemmon.
She did some more film work and a number of television appearances before relocating to England in the 1970's and doing some film work overseas. She even formed her own production company in 1988.
Lee Remick married twice, first to Bill Colleran from August 3rd, 1957 through November 23rd, 1968 after having two children, Matt and Kate. She then married a British film producer, Kip Gowans from 1970 through July 2nd, 1991 when she passed away in Los Angeles, California from liver and kidney cancer. Her husband Kip worked with her on a number of television movies such as, "The Women's Room" (1980) and "Rearview Mirror" (1984).
She received a number of honors and Awards such as a Tony Award nomination for her role portraying a blind women in, "Wait Until Dark". She was also awarded the Women's International Center Living Legacy Award in 1990 and in 1991 she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lee Remick was cremated at Westwood Memorial Park.
