LEE MAJORS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Lee Majors was born on April 23rd, 1939 in Wyandotte, Michigan with the birth name Harvey Lee Yeary to parents, Carl and Alice Yeary. Sadly, he lost both of his parents in two separate car accidents and was raised by an uncle and aunt.
He attended Middlesboro High School and earned a scholarship to study at Indiana University where he was very involved in sports. He then transferred to Eastern Kentucky University and played football for the college until he was injured and actually suffered two weeks of being paralyzed ending his football career.
Majors then began to develop an interest in acting and would perform in a number of plays. In 1962, he earned his college degree in History and Physical Education. He then relocated to Los Angeles, California and found employment at the Los Angeles Park and Recreation Department as the Recreation Director.
Living in Los Angeles, put him in contact with many people in the entertainment industry and soon he was convinced to take up acting lessons. After one year of studying the art he was cast in the film, “Straight-Jacket” (1964) followed by roles on the television western series, “Gunsmoke” and “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour”.
His big break to stardom came when he was cast in the ABC western series, “The Big Valley” starring alongside Barbara Stanwyck, Richard Long, Linda Evans and Peter Breck. When he was cast in the film, “Midnight Cowboy” (1969) which did star Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman, he was also offered another year on the series, “The Big Valley” (1965) but due to his contract obligation, he could not sign on to the film since
he was obligated for another season.
In 1969 the series was cancelled and he was then offered a long term contract with Universal Studios and then in 1970 he was offered another recurring role as a cast member of the television series, “The Virginian”. He is also remembered for his role as Col. Steve Austin in, “The Six Million Dollar Man” (1974) and also portraying character, Colt Seavers in, “The Fall Guy” (1981).
Some of his other roles in film were in, “Will Penny” (1968) opposite Charlton Heston, "The Ballad of Andy Crocker" (1969), “The Norseman” (1978), “Steel” (1979), “Killer Fish” (1979), “Agency” (1980), “The Last Chance” (1981) and some of his latest work in, “Big Fat Liar” (2002) , “The Brothers Solomon” (2007) and “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde” (2010).
Majors has been married four times. His first wife was Thelma Kathleen Robinson whom he wed in 1961 and had one child, Lee Majors II, before the marriage ended in 1965. He then married his second wife, Farrah Fawcett in 1973 and they were together until 1982. His third time to marry was to, Karen Velez in 1988 and they had three children, Nikki and twin sons, Dane and Trey, before divorcing in 1994. Finally, he married his present wife, Faith Majors in 2002 and they remain married today. He has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
