KIEFER SUTHERLAND BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Kiefer Sutherland was born on December 21st, 1966 in Paddington, London in the United Kingdom with the birth name Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland. His parents were Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas who both worked as professional Canadian actors.
At the age of four his family relocated to the United States, settling in Corona, California, however in 1975 after his parents divorced he returned with his mother to live in Ontario, Canada. His early education was spent at Crescent Town Elementary School, St. Clair Junior High and John G. Althouse Middle School. He attended five different colleges, St. Andrew's College, Martingrove Collegiate Institute, Harbord Collegiate Institute, Silverthorn Collegiate Institute, Malvern Collegiate Institute and Annex Village Campus. In addition he studied acting at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School.
Sutherland soon began pursuing a career as an actor. His film debut was in 1983 in, "Max Dugan Returns" followed by a role in the Canadian film, "The Bay Boy" (1984) which earned him a Best Actor Academy Award nomination. He now decided if he really wanted to make a fulltime career out of acting, he needed to move to Los Angeles, California.
When Sutherland arrived in the States he began working first on television in, "Amazing Stories" (1995) and the television movie, "Trapped in Silence" (1986). Soon he was adding such film credits to his resume with roles in, "Stand By Me" (1986), "Article 99" (1992), "A Few Good Men" (1992) starring Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon and Demi Moore, "The Vanishing" (1993), "Dark City" (1998), "Phone Booth" (2002), "The Wild" (2006), "Mirrors" (2008) and "Twelve" (2010).
On television one of his most well known roles has been on the series, "24" portraying Jack Bauer, a role for which he has won one Emmy Award and earned five other nominations, as well as winning one Golden Globe Award and earning four other nominations. Other television appearances include, "LA Confidential", "Twin Peaks" and a recurring role on the new Fox television series, "Touch" (2012).
In addition to his television and film work, he has done voice over work for such products as, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Apple Inc., Bank of America and did the voice for Sgt. Roebuck in the video game, Call of Duty: World at War. Sutherland also had the opportunity to appear on Broadway in 2011 in a production of, "That Champion Season".
Kiefer Sutherland has married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Camelia Kath in 1987 and they had one child before the marriage ended three years later. He then married Kelly Winn in 1996 however, by 2004, this marriage also ended in divorce. He was also at one time engaged to actress, Julia Roberts.
In the late 90's, Sutherland actually took a brief break from acting and purchased a 900 acre ranch in Montana with the intention to pursue the rodeo circuit and actually competed in a number of roping contests before he chose to return back to acting.
Sutherland is also involved in other business ventures such as being co-owner with his best friend, Jude Cole of an independent record label called Ironworks. He is also an avid collector of vintage guitars.
Kiefer Sutherland has been honored various times during his career as an actor. In 2005, he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame and in 2009, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Television.
