JULIE CHRISTIE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Julie Christie was born on April 14th, 1941 in Chabua, Assam in India with the birth name Julie Frances Christie. She was raised on her father's tea plantation and later her family sent her to study in England. She later finished her education in Paris, France and then planned on pursuing a career as an artist studying at the Central School of Speech training in London.
Christie loved to travel and therefore gained an interest in the theater as she could travel and perform on stage. After gaining quite a bit of stage experience she broke into the film industry with her debut on the television series, "A for Andromeda" in 1961.
Soon, Christie was adding more film roles to her resume such as, "Crooks Anonymous" (1962) starring Leslie Phillips, Stanley Baxter, James Robertson Justice, Robertson Hare, Raymond Huntley, Harry Fowler, Charles Lloyd Pack and Harold Goodwin, Michael Medwin and Wilfrid Hyde-White among many others, "The Fast Lady" (1962) co-starring with Stanley Baxter, James Robertson Justice, Kathleen Harrison and Leslie Phillips, "Billy Liar" (1963) with Tom Courtenay, Wilfred Pickles and Mona Washbourne, "Young Cassidy" (1965) co-starring Rod Taylor, Jack MacGowran, Flora Robson, Edith Evans, Sian Phillips, Michael Redgrave and Maggie Smith, "Darling" (1965) with Dirk Bogarde and Laurence Harvey and she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Diana Scott, "Doctor Zhivago" (1965) starring alongside Omar Sharif, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Alec Guinness, Ralph Richardson, Klaus Kinski, Jack MacGowran, Siobhan McKenna and Tom Courtenay, "Fahrenheit 451" (1966) starring with starring Oskar Werner, Anton Diffring and Cyril Cusack, "Far from the Madding Crowd" (1967) co-starring Alan Bates, Terence Stamp, Prunella Ransome and Peter Finch and "Petulia" (1968) also starring George C. Scott, Richard Chamberlain, Arthur Hill, Shirley Knight, Pippa Scott, Kathleen Widdoes, Richard Dysart, Ruth Kobart, Joseph Cotten, Rene Auberjonois and Ellen Geer.
Her career was now at a high point, however she chose at this time to focus on her personal life with her boyfriend Warren Beatty. The couple owned at one point, Katira Productions. She later ended her relationship with Beatty and married Duncan Campbell and they remain together today.
She did return to films with two highly successful roles in, "The Go-Between" (1970) co-starring Dominic Guard, Alan Bates, Margaret Leighton, Michael Redgrave, Michael Gough and Edward Fox and "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" (1971) starring with Warren Beatty, Rene Auberjonois, William Devane, John Schuck, Corey Fischer, Bert Remsen, Keith Carradine, Michael Murphy, Linda Sorenson, Hugh Millais, Shelley Duvall, Wayne Robson, Jack Riley and Janet Wright and Thomas Hill, a role for which she won an Oscar nomination.
Although, very selective of which film roles she undertook, other credits she added to her resume included roles in the films, Don't Look Now" (1973) with Donald Sutherland, "The Gold Diggers" (1983) with with Kassandra Colson and Siobhan Davies, "Hamlet" (1996) also starring Derek Jacobi, Michael Maloney, Kate Winslet, Richard Briers, Nicholas Farrell, Robin Williams, Gerard Depardieu, Jack Lemmon, Billy Crystal, Rufus Sewell, Charlton Heston, Richard Attenborough, Judi Dench and John Gielgud and "Afterglow" (1997) with Nick Nolte and Alan Rudolph, Lara Flynn Boyle, Jay Underwood and Jonny Lee Miller, for which she received her third Oscar nomination.
She has since continued working in the industry alternating between stage and film roles. More recent film credits include, "Away From Her" (2006) co-starring Gordon Pinsent, Michael Murphy, Olympia Dukakis, Wendy Crewson, Alberta Watson, Lili Francks, Grace Lynn Kung and Kristen Thomson, "New York, I Love You" (2009) Bradley Cooper, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Anton Yelchin, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, Irrfan Khan, Rachel Bilson, Chris Cooper, Andy García, Christina Ricci, John Hurt, Cloris Leachman, Robin Wright, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, James Caan and Shu Qi, "Glorious 39" (2009) starring Romola Garai, Bill Nighy, Jeremy Northam, Christopher Lee, David Tennant and Jenny Agutter, "Red Riding Hood" (2011) a dark fantasy and thriller film directed by Catherine Hardwicke, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and starring Amanda Seyfried, Billy Burke, Gary Oldman, Max Irons, Lukas Haas, Virginia Madsen, Christine Willes, Michael Shanks and Shiloh Fernandez, and soon to release in 2013, "The Company You Keep" a political action thriller, produced, directed by and starring Robert Redford, Shia LaBeouf, Nick Nolte, Sam Elliott, Chris Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Richard Jenkins, Stephen Root, Susan Sarandon, Jackie Evancho, Brit Marling, Brendan Gleeson, Anna Kendrick and Terrence Howard.
She remains working in the industry and in addition to her acting, she dedicated her time to being active for animal rights and is a supporter of Survival International which is a charity organization that supports tribal people. She also supports environmental causes and the anti-nuclear power movement.
Julie Christie has been honored in Hollywood numerous times such as being ranked #29 in Mr. Skin's Top 110 Celebrity Nude Scenes and ranked #5 in Hello magazine's 25 British Beauties.
