JOI LANSING BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Joi Lansing was born on April 6th, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah with the birth name Joyce Renee Brown, born to Jack Glen and Virginia Grace Brown. She first became involved in the entertainment industry by working as a model and it did not take long before Lansing decided to try and break in to the film industry. She is most well remembered for her role on the television series, "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962) portraying the wife of Lester Flatt.
As a teenager, she was signed to a contract with MGM and some of her early career film roles included appearances on such features as, "The Counterfeiters" (1948), "Julia Misbehaves" (1948) starring Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Lawford and Cesar Romero, "Easter Parade" (1948) starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire and "Blondie's Secret" (1948) starring Penny Singleton as Blondie and Arthur Lake as her husband Dagwood.
Now with some experience on her resume, she hoped for better roles, however, with not much acting training, she was mostly cast in roles due to her physical appearance and most roles that followed were un-credited.
Lansing returned to focus on her modeling career for a bit and then went back to working on films appearing in, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" (1949) starring Frank Sinatra, Esther Williams and Gene Kelly, "FBI Girl" (1951) starring Cesar Romero, George Brent, Walter Coy, Audrey Totter, Raymond Burr and Tom Drake, "On the Riviera" (1951) starring with Danny Kaye, Gene Tierney and Corinne Calvet, "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) starring Gene Kelly Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor and Jean Hagen and "The Merry Widow" (1952) starring Lana Turner and Fernando Lamas.
Joi also appeared in a number of television shows such as "I Love Lucy", "Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok" starring Guy Madison and Andy Devine, "The Bob Cummings Show", "Sugarfoot", The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, "Racket Squad", "Noah's Ark", "Bat Masterson" starring Gene Barry, "This Man Dawson", "Petticoat Junction" and "It's a Great Life".
Finally, Lansing had been able to prove to Hollywood through her television roles that she was not only a pretty face but also a talented actress. More substantial film roles soon began to come her way such as, "The Brave One" (1956), "Hot Cars" (1956), "So You Think the Grass is Greener" (1956), "Touch of Evil" (1958) starring Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Orson Welles and Marlene Dietrich, "Who Was That Lady?" (1960) starring with Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh and Dean Martin, "Marriage on the Rocks" (1965) starring Frank Sinatra, Deborah Kerr and Dean Martin, and her final film roles were in, "Hillbillys in a Haunted House" (1967) starring alongside Ferlin Husky, John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr., and Basil Rathbone and "Bigfoot" (1970) co-starring John Carradine, Christopher Mitchum, Doodles Weaver, James Craig, Ken Maynard and John Mitchum.
Along with her career as a model and actress, she was also a talented singer and in 1965 she began performing in a number of nightclubs and even released her first album.
Joi Lasing married four throughout her lifetime, however her first marriage was at the young age of seventeen and lasted less than a year. She then wed Jerome 'Jerry' Safron in 1950 however that same year this marriage too was unsuccessful and annulled. She then wed Lance Fuller in 1951 but by 1953 this marriage also came to an end. Her fourth husband was Stan Todd whom she wed in 1960 and they stayed together until, sadly, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away at the young age of forty three in Santa Monica, California on August 7th, 1972.
