JOHN RUSSELL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Russell was born on January 3rd, 1921 in Los Angeles, California with the birth name John Lawrence Russell. After completing High School, he attended the University of California and excelled in athletics. After college, he served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
Upon receiving a medical discharge he was discovered by a talent scout who was intrigued by his good looks and was asked if he was interested in pursuing a movie career. He began by being contracted with 20th Century Fox for a variety of supporting roles and then later on he signed with Republic Pictures.
The majority of roles he played throughout his career were often in western films such as, "Oklahoma Annie" (1952). Alongside his film career he also found work as a television actor. He starred in a number of popular series such as, "It Takes A Thief" (1969) and prior to this series, he was given the lead role in a television drama called, "Soldiers of Fortune" (1955), however it was not so successful and was canceled in 1957.
Russell's best known role was in 1958 with the role as Marshall Dan Troop in, "Lawman" which was a hit western series that ran on ABC for five consecutive years. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, Russell would return to the film industry taking secondary roles and appeared in more then twenty films. He returned in 1985 with a memorable role in, "Pale Rider" directed by his close friend Clint Eastwood.
John Russell married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Renata Titus from 1943 through 1965 and the couple had three children together. His second marriage was to Linda Warner Pearse for only one year 1970 to 1971. He passed away on January 19th, 1991 in Los Angeles, California from emphysema and is buried at a military cemetery in Westwood California.
