JOHN NEWLAND BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Newland was born on November 23rd, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio who first became involved in the entertainment industry as a singer and dancer. He was involved in vaudeville and later relocated to New York City to study acting.
Prior to beginning his career in the industry, he served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and upon completing his service to his country, he then signed a contract with Warner Brothers.
Some if his early small film roles were on, "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947) and "Nora Prentiss" (1947). Not being offered much in the way of films, he turned to television and made several small appearances on such shows as, "The Gold Diggers" (1952), "Tales of Tomorrow" (1952-1953), "Studio One in Hollywood" (1950-1951), "Silver Glory" (1951), "The Web" (1950-1953), "Eye Witness" (1953), "Inner Sanctum" (1954) and "Robert Montgomery Presents" (1952-1957).
After retiring from acting in the 1950's, Newland remained in the industry but not as an actor, instead he began directing television series. He will always be most remembered for being the host of the 1959 show, "One Step Beyond" and it's syndicated revival, "The Next Step Beyond" (1978).
