JOHN ANDERSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Anderson was born on October 20th, 1922 in Clayton, Illinois. After high school he went on to college and later earned a master's degree in theater at the university of Iowa. Anderson began his acting career by finding work on the Mississippi River showboat and later also gained experience at the Cleveland Playhouse.
Anderson then made the move to New York City where he began to audition for Broadway. He is most well known for his role portraying, Harry Jackson on the television series, "MacGyver" starring with Richard Dean Anderson and Dana Elcar.
He took a brief break from acting to serve in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Upon completing his military service, Anderson returned to his pursuit of a full time acting career.
He began working as a television actors in the early 1950's with some of his early credits being on such series as, "Rocky King, Detective", "The Phil Silvers Show", "Panic!" and "The Court of Last Resort".
As his career in the industry progressed he mainly focused on television work but had the occasional film appearance to add to his credits. Some on his more well known film roles included, "Last Train From Gun Hill" (1959) starring Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, Earl Holliman, Carolyn Jones, Brian G. Hutton and Brad Dexter, Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960) starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, Martin Balsam, John McIntire, Simon Oakland, Frank Albertson, Virginia Gregg, Jeanette Nolan, Mort Mills, Lurene Tuttle, Vaughn Taylor, Ted Knight and Janet Leigh, "Walk on the Wild Side" (1962) starring with Laurence Harvey, Capucine, Jane Fonda, Anne Baxter, Joanna Moore and Barbara Stanwyck, "Ride the High Country" (1962) starring Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Mariette Hartley, Edgar Buchanan, John Davis Chandler, L. Roosevelt in the popular TV miniseries "Backstairs at the White House" (1979) also starring Leslie Uggams, Olivia Cole, Robert Hooks, Paul Winfield, Hari Rhodes, Cloris Leachman, Jan Sterling, Ed Flanders, Celeste Holm, Lee Grant, Harry Morgan, Kim Hunter, Robert Vaughn, Andrew Duggan, Estelle Parsons, Eileen Heckart, Julie Harris, Victor Buono, Claire Bloom, George Kennedy, Larry Gates, Barbara Barrie, Louis Gossett Jr. and Leslie Nielsen.
John Anderson passed away on August 7th, 1992 in Sherman Oaks, California after suffering from a heart attack. His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea.
