JOE MANTEGNA BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Joe Mantegna was born on November 13th, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois with the birth name Joseph Anthony Mantegna Jr. born to Maryann (née Novelli) and Joseph Anthony Mantegna Sr. Over the course of his career in the entertainment industry he has made quite a name for himself as an actor as well as on the other side of the camera working as a writer, producer and director.
Mantegna is most well known for his role in the film, "The Godfather: Part III" (1990) starring alongside Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Andy García, Eli Wallach, George Hamilton, Bridget Fonda, Raf Vallone and Sofia Coppola. In total, he has appeared in over two hundred film and television roles. His career in acting began when after graduating from Morton East High School in Cicero, IL, in 1965, he went on to earn a degree from the Goodman School of Drama and then began to find work as a stage actor.
His first professional acting debut was in a stage production of, "Hair" in 1969. He then gained quite a bit of experience in Off-Broadway productions before making his Broadway debut in 1978 in the play, "Working".
Along with working as a stage actor around this same decade he began also appearing on the television movies, "Elvis" starring Kurt Russell as Elvis Presley along with Shelley Winters, Season Hubley as Priscilla Presley, Pat Hingle and Bing Russell and "Bleacher Bums" starring Roberta Custer, Richard Fire and Dennis Franz, (both 1979). He then was cast in his first recurring role portraying Juan One on, "Soap" (1980-1981).
Other well known film roles he has added to his credits include, "Compromising Positions" (1985) starring Susan Sarandon, Raul Julia, Judith Ivey, Edward Herrmann, Mary Beth Hurt, Deborah Rush, Anne DeSalvo, Josh Mostel and Joan Allen, "Three Amigos (1986) starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short, "The Money Pit" (1986) starring Tom Hanks, Shelley Long, Yakov Smirnoff, Maureen Stapleton, Philip Bosco, Josh Mostel and Alexander Godunov, "Suspect" (1987) starring Cher Sarkisian, Dennis Quaid, Liam Neeson, John Mahoney, Fred Melamed and Philip Bosco, "House of Games" (1987) with Lindsay Crouse, Ricky Jay and J. T. Walsh, "Forget Paris" (1995) also starring Billy Crystal, Debra Winger, Julie Kavner, Cynthia Stevenson, Richard Masur, Cathy Moriarty and John Spencer, "Up Close & Personal" (1996) co-starring Robert Redford, Michelle Pfeiffer, Stockard Channing and Kate Nelligan, "Joan of Arcadia" (2003) with Amber Tamblyn and Mary Steenburgen, "Childless" (2008) with Barbara Hershey and "Lonely Street" (2009) starring Jay Mohr, Robert Patrick, Nikki Cox and Katt Williams.
Along with film work he has done voice work on the animated television series, "The Simpsons" and has also appeared on the series, "The Bosom Buddies", "The Twilight Zone", "Simon & Simon", "Comedy Zone", "First Monday" starring along with James Garner, Charles Durning, James Karen, Joe Flanigan, Hedy Burress, Randy Vasquez, Linda Purl, Dean Stockwell and Christopher Wiehl, "Joan of Arcadia" and "The Starter Wife" starring Debra Messing, Judy Davis, Miranda Otto, Peter Jacobson, Stephen Moyer, Anika Noni Rose and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Working on the other side of the camera, Mantegna has been the executive producer on such movies as, "Hoods" (1998) with Vincent Berry, Jay Brazeau and Craig Bruhnanski and "Lakeboat" (2000) starring Charles Durning, Peter Falk, Denis Leary and Andy Garcia and such television series as, "Shooting Gallery", "Quickbites" and "Midway USA's Gun Stories". He has also worked as a director on the film, "Lakeboat" and the television series, "Quickbites".
Joe Mantegna has been married since 1975 to Arlene Vrhel and they have two children together and reside in Los Angeles, California. Most recently he has appeared on the television series, "Criminal Minds" as FBI Special Agent David Rossi and the films, "The Bronx Bull" (2013) with William Forsythe, Harry Hamlin, Natasha Henstridge, Cloris Leachman, Ray Wise, Penelope Ann Miller and Paul Sorvino, "Kill Me, Deadly" (2013) starring Kirsten Vangsness and Shemar Moore, "Ten Cent Pistol" (2013) starring Jena Malone, JT Alexander and Damon Alexander and "Compulsion" (2013) co-starring Heather Graham, Carrie-Anne Moss and Kevin Dillon.
On April 29, 2011, Mantenga was honored with the 2,438th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
