JODIE FOSTER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Jodie Foster was born on November 19th, 1962 in Los Angeles, California with the birth name Alicia Christian Foster.  Her parents had actually divorced three years before she was born, but on a visit her mother took to collect child support for her other children , the couple briefly reconciled and Jodie was conceived.

As a young girl she became involved in the entertainment industry mostly at that time as a means to help financially support her family.  She began with commercial work and by the age of five, Foster received her first substantial role on the television series, "Mayberry R.F.D" (1968).  This role opened a number of other opportunities for her to get work as a child actress.  She was seen making appearances on, "The Doris Day Show" (1968), "Adam-12" (1968) and "Gunsmoke" (1969).

She was only ten years old when she was cast in the film, "One Little Indian" (1973) and then at only twelve years old she portrayed a prostitute in the film, "Taxi Driver" (1976), a role that earned her a Oscar nomination.  She managed to balance a career as a child actress and still attended a French-language prep school, the Lycée Français de Los Angeles where she graduated as her class valedictorian.

As Foster grew up in Hollywood as a child actress, she found it easier to transition to different roles and was not type cast or limited to portraying one specific type of character.  She made appearances throughout her teenage years in such films as, "Freaky Friday" (1976), "Candleshoe" (1977) and "Foxes" (1980).  Before she even went on to college she had already appeared in over fifty films.

Jodie then went on to enroll at Yale University.  While at the College studying a horrible tragedy happened, when a crazy fan by the name of John Hinckley tried to kill President Ronald Reagan just to impress Jodie Foster.  Despite the stalking incident with Hinckley and another crazed fan who actually had plans to kill her, Foster went on to earn a degree from Yale in literature and graduated magna cum laude.

She returned to acting with goals of pursuing a decent career as an adult actress.  She soon won her first Academy Award  and Golden Globe Award for her role in the film, "The Accused" (1988).  Still she was not getting cast in films that she felt were to her level of stardom she wanted to achieve but then with her role as, Clarice Starling an FBI trainee in the film, "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) she won her second Academy Award for Best Actress and finally critics really began to take notice of the acting talent she possessed.

Foster then decided to see if she had a talent for working in a different side of the industry as  a director.  The first film she directed was called, "Little Man Tate" (1991) and she followed this film with directing, "Home for the Holidays" (1995).  Even though both films made it to the big screen, neither were of great financial success.

Foster returned to acting and starred in, "Maverick" (1994) followed by roles in, "Nell" (1994) for which she was nominated for another Academy Award and won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress.

Her career as an adult actress was highly successful appearing in such films as, "Contact" (1997), "Anna and the King" (1999), "Panic Room" (2002), "The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys" (2002) and "A Very Long Engagement" (2004).

Foster continued to appear in films that were highly successful.  Her next big role was in the film, "Flightplan" (2005) followed by more hits in, "Inside Man" (2006), "The Brave One" (2007), "Nim's Island" (2008) and her newest roles, "The Beaver" (2011) with Mel Gibson and "Elysium" scheduled to release 2013.  She also has plans to direct a sci-fi film.

Jodie Foster is one of the few actresses who made the transition from child star to adult star.  She is one of the highest paid female actresses in the world and her professional and personal life have both been successful.

Jodie Foster has never married and many speculate on her sexual orientation.  Nevertheless, she has given birth to two of her own children, Charles and Christopher Foster, but their father's identity has never been made public.  She continues to work in the industry and has proved herself without a doubt to be one of the most successful woman in Hollywood.
