JAMES BURKE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

James Burke was born on September 24th, 1886 in New York City, New York.  His career in entertainment began by working as a stage actor in New York in 1912.  After gaining quite a bit of stage experience he chose to make the move to Hollywood in the early 30's and try and break into the film industry.
 
Some of his early film roles included, "The Kennel Murder Case" (1933) starring alongside William Powell, Mary Astor, Eugene Pallette, Jack La Rue, Ralph Morgan, James Lee, Robert McWade, Robert Barrat and Frank Conroy, "A Pair of Socks" (1933) co-starring George Moran, Charles Mack and Iris Lancaster, "A Lady's Profession" (1933) starring Alison Skipworth, Roland Young, Sari Maritza, Kent Taylor and Roscoe Karns, "Parole Girl" (1933) with Mae Clarke, Ralph Bellamy and Marie Prevost and "The Man Who Dared" (1933) starring with Preston Foster, Zita Johann and Joan Marsh.  Over the course of his career he would appear in over 200 shorts, films and television series.

Some of his more well known film roles included, "Pot O' Gold" (1941) starring James Stewart, Charles Winninger and Paulette Goddard, "The Maltese Falcon" (1941) starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Ward Bond, Jerome Cowan, Elisha Cook Jr. and Barton MacLane, "Nightmare Alley" (1947) starring Tyrone Power, Joan Blondell, Coleen Gray, Helen Walker, Mike Mazurki, Taylor Holmes and Ian Keith, "Shamrock Hill" (1949) starring Peggy Ryan, Ray McDonald, Rick Vallin, Trudy Marshall and John Litel, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" (1949) starring Frank Sinatra, Esther Williams, Edward Arnold, Betty Garrett and Gene Kelly, "Raton Pass" (1951) starring Dennis Morgan, Patricia Neal, Steve Cochran, Dorothy Hart and Scott Forbes, "Lone Star" (1952) starring Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, Broderick Crawford, Ed Begley and Lionel Barrymore, "Lucky Me" (1954) Doris Day, Robert Cummings, Phil Silvers, Martha Hyer, Nancy Walker, Eddie Foy Jr. and Hayden Rorke and his final film role was in, "The Unholy Wife" (1957) starring Diana Dors, Rod Steiger, Tom Tryon, Arthur Franz, Joe De Santis, Douglas Spencer, Beulah Bondi and Marie Windsor.

Towards the later part of his career, he turned his focus to television roles appearing on the series, "Duffy's Tavern", "Mark Saber", "My Little Margie", "The Life of Riley", "Passport to Danger", "Tales of Wells Fargo", "The Red Skelton Hour", "Trackdown", "Stagecoast West", "Wagon Train", "Wanted: Dead or Alive" and "Lassie".

James Burke passed away at the age of eighty one from a heart condition on May 23rd, 1968 in Los Angeles, California.
