HUGH MARLOWE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Hugh Marlowe was born on January 30th, 1911 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Hugh Herbert Hipple. His career in entertainment began like many actors during this era, as a stage actor in the 1930's. He found work at the Pasadena Playhouse in California and worked on a number of productions there.
He gained experience as a radio and stage performer before breaking into film and television roles. Some of his film credits include, "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944), "Twelve O'Clock High" (1949), "All About Eve" (1950) starring Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm and George Sanders, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) starring Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal, "Monkey Business" (1952), "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" (1956), "Elmer Gantry" (1960), "Birdman of Alcatraz" (1962) starring Burt Lancaster and Karl Malden and "Seven Days in May" (1964).
Marlowe also appeared on such television series as, "Another World", "Lux Video Theatre", "Crossroads", "The Virginian", "Rawhide", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Perry Mason".
Later during the course of his career he added numerous Broadway roles to his resume in such plays as, "The Deer Park" (1967) and "All My Sons" (1974).
He married a total of three times throughout his lifetime, first to Edith Atwater in 1941 but just three years later this marriage came to an end. He then married, K.T. Stevens in 1946 and they had two children before this marriage also came to an end in 1967. His third time to marry was to Rosemary Torri in 1968 and together they had one child and remained married until he passed away at the age of seventy one, on May 2nd, 1982 in New York City, New York after suffering from a heart attack.
