HENRY JONES BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Henry Jones was born on August 1st, 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Henry Burk Jones, born to Helen and John Francis Xavier Jones. After graduating from Saint Joseph's Preparatory School, e earned a college degree from St. Joseph's College and then decided to pursue a career as an actor.
Jones began with working as a stage actor and debuted on Broadway in a production of, "Maurice Evans" (1938). Other stage credits he added to his credits included, "The Bad Seed", "My Sister Eileen", "The Time of Your Life", "They Knew What They Wanted" and "Sunrise at Campobello", for which he won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play and also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Performance in a Drama.
He took a brief break from acting to serve in the United States Army during World War II and upon completing his military service, Jones returned to his acting career adding more stage credits.
He then broke into the film industry with some of his more well know appearances on such films as, "This is the Army" (1943) starring George Murphy, Joan Leslie, Alan Hale Sr., Rosemary DeCamp, Kate Smith, Victor Moore, George Tobias and Ronald Reagan, "Bad Seed" (1956) co-starring Nancy Kelly, Patty McCormack, Eileen Heckart, Evelyn Varden, William Hopper, Paul Fix, Joan Croydon and Jesse White, "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" (1957) starring Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall, Betsy Drake, Joan Blondell, John Williams, Lili Gentle and Mickey Hargitay, "3:10 to Yuma" (1957) starring Van Heflin, Glenn Ford, Felicia Farr, Robert Emhardt, Richard Jaeckel, Leora Dana and Ford Rainey, "Vertigo" (1958) starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes, Fred Graham, Raymond Bailey, Tom Helmore and Ellen Corby, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969) starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross, Strother Martin, Jeff Corey, Ted Cassidy, Sam Elliott and Cloris Leachman, "Dirty Dingus Magee" (1970) starring Frank Sinatra, George Kennedy, Anne Jackson, John Dehner, Lois Nettleton, Paul Fix, Michele Carey, Harry Carey Jr. and Jack Elam, "The Grifters" (1990) starring John Cusack, Anjelica Huston and Annette Bening and Pat Hingle and "Dick Tracy" (1990) starring alongside Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Charles Durning, Madonna Ciccone, William Forsythe, Glenne Headly, Paul Sorvino, Dick Van Dyke, James Caan, Dustin Hoffman, R.G. In addition to his film work he appeared on such television series as, "Appointment with Adventure", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Eleventh Hour", "Adam-12", "Lights Out", "Emergency!", "The Mod Squad", "Daniel Boone", "Gunsmoke", "Channing", "Father knows Best", "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show", "The Twilight Zone", "Climax!", "Burke's Law", "The Loretta Young Show" and "The Dukes of Hazzard" among many others. In total he added over 200 roles to his resume.
His final acting role was on the television series, "Picture Window" (1995). He then retired from acting and lived the remainder of his life in Santa Monica, California until he passed away at the age of eighty six on May 17th, 1999 after suffering from a fall.
Henry Jones had two children and was married twice throughout his lifetime. His first wife was Yvonne Bergere whom he weed in January 1942 but divorced that same year in October. He then wed Judy Briggs in 1948 and this marriage came to an end after having two children in 1961. He never re-married and remained working in the industry.
