Heath Ledger ACTOR

Heath Ledger was born on April 4th, 1979 in Perth, Australia with the middle name Andrew, born to Kim Ledger and Sally Ramshaw.  He had three sisters and it was during high school that he first developed an interest in acting.  He had to choose between taking a cooking class or a drama class as an elective and chose drama.  Heath soon realized he enjoyed performing and at the age of seventeen he decided to test our of high school and graduate early so he could travel to Sydney, Australia with a friend in search of pursuing his dream as an actor.
It took a while for him to break in to the industry, but he did get a small role in a low budget film called, "Blackrock" (1997) followed by another small role on a television show called, "Sweat" (1996).  Although, both roles he had on his resume were small, that did not stop him from continuing to pursue his dream.  Soon he was being cast in such films as, "Home and Away" (1988), "Paws" (1997) and "Two Hands" (1999).
Heath now felt he had enough experience to relocate to the United States and take his chances in Hollywood.  He first appeared on the American made film, "Roar" (1997) followed by a decent size role in, "10 Things I Hate About You" (1999).  As his career progressed, he wanted to avoid being type cast to portray just one type of character so he took on any challenging role that was offered to him.  Heath was seen in such features as, "The Patriot" (2000) starring Mel Gibson, "Monster's Ball" (2001) starring Halle Berry, "Ned Kelly" (2003) and his most successful film role in 2005 in, "Brokeback Mountain", for which Heath received his first Oscar nomination as well as a BAFTA.
Other film roles he added to his resume were in, "The Four Feathers" (2002), "The Order" (2003), "The Brothers Grimm" (2005) and "Casanova" (2005).  Plus, along with working as an actor, Heath was also the co-founder of record label, Music Masses Co. with musician, Ben Harper.  He produced a number of music videos and aspired to one day move into film production.
His last film role, "The Dark Knight" (2008) was released after his death.  Sadly, on January 22nd, 2008 he was found dead in his apartment in Manhattan, New York and the cause of death was ruled as an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.  For his role in his last film, he was honored with an Oscar, SAG, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award.  Other honors he received throughout his career in the industry were being named by People's Magazine as one of the, "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2001 and in 2007, Empire Magazine chose him as one of the, "100 Sexiest Movie Stars in the World".
His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered in a family plot at Karrakotta Cemetery in Australia.  He was survived by his only daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger who was born in 2005 and her mother Michelle Williams.
