HARRY MORGAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Harry Morgan was born on April 10th, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan with the birth name Harry Bratsburg to parents Anna and Henry. After graduating from Muskegon High School in 1933 he enrolled at the University of Chicago with career goals of obtaining a degree in law.
However, while at College he began showing an interest in acting and decided to get involved as a stage actor. In 1937, he changed his career goals began to pursue a career as a working stage actor. He joined the Group Theatre in New York City in 1937 and starred in, "Golden Boy". This stage role soon followed with others and he also performed with summer stock.
After gaining a number of years experience as a stage actor, Morgan began to pursue the film industry. He began as a contract player in 1942 with 20th Century Fox. He first appeared on screen in, "To the Shores of Tripoli" (1942) followed by roles in, "Orchestra Wives" (1942), "Wing and a Prayer" (1944), "The Big Clock" (1948), "High Noon" (1952) starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, "The Glenn Miller Story" (1954) starring James Stewart, "Strategic Air Command" (1955) also starring James Stewart, "The Mountain Road" (1960), "Frankie and Johnny" (1966) starring Elvis Presley, "Snowball Express" (1972) and "The Shootist" (1976) starring John Wayne.
He became most well known to the public early on for his role as the character Pete Porter in both the television series, "December Bride" (1954-1959) and "Pete and Gladys" (1960-1962). Morgan also made a number of other television appearances on such series as, "Have Gun - Will Travel" (1958-1963), "Dragnet" (1967-1970), "The Partridge Family" (1970-1972), "Hec Ramsey" (1972-1974) starring Richard Boone and his role that will always be remembered in the hit television series, "M.A.S.H." (1975-1983) portraying Colonel Sherman T. Potter. In 1980 he won an Emmy award for his performance in this series.
After "M.A.S.H" came to an end in 1983, Morgan continued to make appearances on television in such shows as, "The Incident", "The Simpson's" (1995), "3rd Rock from the Sun" (1996), "Murder, She Wrote" (1987)", and "Grace Under Fire" (1996-1997).
His latest film roles were in 1999 in, "Love and Money" and "Cross Walk". Then in 2006 he was honored by being inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
Throughout his lifetime he married twice, first to Eileen Detchon from 1940 through her death on February 4th, 1985 and together they had four children. He then married Barbara Bushman in 1986 and they remained together until he passed away on December 7th, 2011 at his home in Brentwood, California at the age of ninety six after suffering from pneumonia.
