GRANT WITHERS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
 
Grant Withers was born on January 17th, 1904 in Pueblo, Colorado with the birth name Granville G. Withers.  He became a very successful actor and throughout the course of his career, he would appear in more than 200 films.
 
He attended Kemper Military Academy and appeared in a number of school plays which first triggered his interest in acting.  After finishing school, he supported himself as a salesman as well as a newspaper reporter.  When he did finally work his way in to an acting career, the majority of characters he portrayed were villains.
 
He began working in the silent era but made the transition to talkies with ease.  He worked with Republic Pictures for ten years during his career in the industry.  Some film and television roles he added to his resume were in, "The Second Floor Mystery" (1930), a twelve chapter serial, "Jungle Jim" in 1937 and the series, "Mr. Wong" (1938).  He also worked with actor, John Wayne in nine films such as, "Fort Apache" (1948), "Wake of the Red Witch (also 1948) and "Rio Grande" (1950). 
 
Throughout his lifetime he married a total of four times.  His first marriage was very brief to Shirley Paschal.  When this marriage came to an end, media followed his next marriage as he eloped with a seventeen year old young lady, Loretta Young in 1930 but by 1931 this marriage was annulled.  He then wed Gladys Joyce Walsh in 1933 but again, this marriage did not last either.  His fourth time to marry was to Estelita Rodriguez whom he wed in 1953 and another unsuccessful marriage came to an end in 1955.   
 
Four years later, Withers committed suicide by overdosing on barbiturates, on March 27th, 1959 in North Hollywood, California.  His remains are buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
