GORDON JONES BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Gordon Jones was born on April 5th, 1911 in Alden, Iowa with the birth name Gordon Wynnivo Jones. He was very athletic during high school and after earning his high school diploma, Jones attended the University of Los Angeles and played football. He first began his involvement in acting in his early twenties when he realized he could use his good looks and physical appearance to make a decent amount of income.
Some of his early career roles were on such films as, "The Monkey's Paw" and "Red Salute" starring Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Young, which were small extra un-credited roles. However, now realizing he really enjoyed acting, he began to take his career more seriously and soon RKO Pictures signed him to a contract.
Throughout his career as an actor, he became most well known for his roles on the television series, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" playing, Butch Barton. He is also well remembered for playing, Mike the Cop on, "The Abbott and Costello Show" and Brit Reid, known as the Green Hornet in, "The Green Hornet Films" with Keye Luke as Kato in the series from Universal Pictures.
His character roles were mostly heroes or villains as his physical appearance fit that type of character. He took a brief break from acting to serve during World War II and upon completing his service he had no issues getting right back into film roles.
Other roles he added to his resume were on such films as, "Flying Tigers" (1943) co-starring John Wayne, John Carroll, Anna Lee, Paul Kelly and Addison Richards, "Island In the Sky" (1953) starring John Wayne, Lloyd Nolan, Andy Devine, Paul Fix, Harry Carey Jr., James Arness, Fess Parker, Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer, Walter Abel, Darryl Hickman and Mike Connors, "The Winning Team" (1952) starring Ronald Reagan, Doris Day and Frank Lovejoy, "Son of Flubber" (1963) starring with Fred MacMurray, Nancy Olsen, Tommy Kirk, Keenan Wynn and Ed Wynn and "McLintock!" (1963) also starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne De Carlo, Patrick Wayne, Chill Wills, Jerry Van Dyke, Stefanie Powers, Bruce Cabot, Strother Martin, Edgar Buchanan, Mari Blanchard, Leo Gordon, Hank Worden, Robert Lowery and Bob Steele.
Gordon Jones passed away on June 20th, 1963 in Tarzana, California after suffering from a heart attack.
There is a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in honor of the contributions of Gordon Jones to the Television Industry at 1600 Vine Street.
