GEORGE TOBIAS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
George Tobias was born on July 14th, 1901 in New York City, New York. He began his career in acting at the Pasadena Playhouse and also began performing in a number of theater groups.
He gained some more experience as a stage actor on Broadway and then in 1939, he relocated to Hollywood and began to break in to the film industry. He signed a contract with Warner Brothers and began appearing on such films as, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939) starring Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Hara, "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1942) starring James Cagney, Rosemary DeCamp and Walter Huston, "Sergeant York" (1941) starring Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan, "Captains of the Cloud" (1942), "Juke Girl" (1942) and "Mission to Moscow" (1943).
As his career progressed into the mid 40's and early 50's he continued to focus on film work appearing in such features as, "Between Two Worlds" (1944), "Objective, Burma!" (1945) starring Errol Flynn, "Sinbad, The Sailor" (1947), "The Set Up" (1949), "The Magic Carpet" (1951) and "The Glenn Miller Story" (1951) starring James Stewart, June Allyson and Harry Morgan and "The Seven Little Foys" (1955) starring Bob Hope.
Along with his work as a stage and film actor, he made quite a name for himself later in his career, appearing on such television series as, "Bewitched" (1964-1971), "77 Sunset Strip", "Laramie", "Climax!", "Adventures in Paradise", "The Waltons", "Medical Center" and "Love, American Style".
George Tobias never chose to marry or have any children of his own. His final roles were in 1977 on the series, "Switch" and "Tabitha". He then retired from acting and on February 27th, 1980 he passed away in Los Angeles, California after suffering from bladder cancer. His remains are buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Glendale, New York.
