George Segal ACTOR

George Segal was born on February 13th, 1934 in Great Neck, Long Island in New York, born to parents Fannie Blanche and George Segal Sr.  After graduating from George School in Pennsylvania he went on to study at Haverford College and then earned his college degree from Columbia University.
His career in entertainment began as a musician as well as a stage actor. He studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.  He then broke into the film industry in the early 1960's with some of his early screen roles being on such features as, "The Young Doctors" (1961), "The Longest Day" (1962) starring some of the greatest male actors such as John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Peter Lawford, Rod Steiger, Richard Burton and Sean Connery, "Channing" (1963), "King Rat" (1965), "Ship of Fools" (1965), "Lost Command" (1966) and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (1966) starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
Although he was not an actor in high demands, he was still appearing on a variety of successful films such as, "The Quiller Memorandum", "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre"(1967), "No Way to Treat a Lady" (1968), "The Owl and the Pussycat" (1970), "The Bridge at Remagen" (1969), "Born to Win" (1971) and "Where's Poppa?" (1970).
He never type cast himself to play one type of character or limited himself to one type of film genre.  Segal continued to take on new and challenging roles such as in the comedy film, "The Hot Rock" (1972), "Fun with Dick and Jane" (1977) starring alongside Jane Fonda and a very successful film with co star, Kirstie Alley in, "Look Who's Talking" (1989) followed by a lead role in, "Me, Myself and I" (1992).
Along with his work in film he also appeared on a number of television series such as, "Just Shoot Me!" 1997-2003), "The Zeta Project" (2002), "The War at Home" (2007), "Private Practice" (2007), "Boston Legal" (2008) and his latest role as a recurring character on, 'Retired at 35" (2011).
In addition to his acting career, he kept up his love of music and is a very accomplished banjo player.  Prior to becoming a working actor, Segal performed with a Dizieland Jazz band, later calling themselves, Red Onion Jazz Band.  He later performed on, "A Touch of Ragtime" (1985) and on, "Basin Street" (1987).
He has been married three times, first to Marion Sobel whom he wed in 1956 and after having two children this marriage came to an end in 1983.  He then married Linda Rogoff in 1983 and they remained married until she passed away on June 13th, 1996.  His third wife is Sonia Schultz Geenbaum whom he wed in 1996 and they are together today.
