George Clooney ACTOR

George Clooney was born on May 6th, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky to Nick Clooney and Nina Bruce.  He attended school at Blessed Sacrament School in Kentucky and St. Michael's School in Columbus, Ohio.  His father was employed as a newscaster and by the age of fifteen Clooney was accompanying his dad to work.  He became interested in the entertainment industry but did not want to be a newscaster such as his father so he began to pursue other interests.
After graduating from Augusta High School he tried to join the Cincinnati Reds professional Baseball team but did not make the cut, therefore he went on to study at Northern Kentucky University and majored in Broadcast Journalism, however he never earned his college degree.
He decided to drop out early and first found work in various odd jobs such as selling men's suits and cutting tobacco.  He soon became interested in acting when his cousin, Miguel Ferrer was able to get him a small role in a feature film.  He then decided he liked acting and decided to relocate to Los Angeles and pursue a career as a professional actor.  He studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and then began trying to get involved as a professional actor.
His first role in Los Angeles was working as an extra in the Television series, "Centennial" (1978).  A couple more years of some extra work and small roles took place before in 1984, Clooney got his first major role on the television sitcom, "E/R".  Some other small roles followed on such series as, "The Facts of Life", "The Golden Girls", "Roseanne" and "Sisters".
His big break came when he was cast on the television drama series, "ER" (1994-1999).  While working on this series he began to gain a large amount of attention from Hollywood and began appearing in films such as, "From Dusk till Dawn", "One Fine Day", "The Peacemaker", "Batman & Robin" (1997), "The Perfect Storm", "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", "Out of Sight" (1998) and "Three Kings".
In 2001 he appeared on the big screen again in, "Ocean's Eleven" which then also had an "Ocean's Twelve' and "Ocean's Thirteen" to follow.  Along with his highly successful acting career, Clooney also became involved in directing when he partnered with, Steven Soderbergh and together they started, Section Eight Productions and directed, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" (2002), and followed by directing and starring in, "Good Night, and Good Luck" (2005) for which he was nominated for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor at the 2006 Academy Awards.  He did not win for best director but did for Best Supporting Actor.  He also directed, "Leatherheads" (2008) for which there was some controversy after the film aired and therefore, Clooney then resigned from the Writers Guild.
Clooney continued to take on more film assignments such as, "The Men Who Stare At Goats" (2009) and "Up in the Air" which was nominated for a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA and an Academy Award.  Clooney has also been nominated twice by, People's Magazine, being given the title of, "Sexiest Man Alive".  Clooney alongside a successful career as a television and film actor has also been seen in a number of advertisements for such products as, Fiat, Nespresso and Martini vermouth.
George Clooney has been married only once to Talia Balsam whom he wed in 1989 and they divorced in 1993.  He vows to never marry again but has had numerous lasting relationships.
Along with a successful career he is also involved in social activism and serves as one of the United Nations Messengers of Peace and is also an advocate for a finding a resolution to the Darfur conflict.  He was also very involved with raising funds for the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2004 Tsunami and September 11th victims.  Along with his close friends, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and others, he is involved in an organization called, 'Not On Our Watch' that puts attention and provides resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities.
George Clooney currently resides in Los Angeles, California but also owns a home in Ital.  He continues to act with his latest role currently in pre production, "Gravity" set to release 2012.  He also still owns his own Production Company, Maysville Pictures.
