GARY SINISE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Gary Sinise was born on March 17th, 1955 in Blue Island, Illinois with the birth name Gary Allan Sinise, to parents, Mylles and Robert Sinise. As a teenager he was quite rebellious and played in local bands with little focus on his school work. As a prank with some friends he tried out for a local stage production of, "West Side Story", however after being cast in the play he realized how much he enjoyed performing as an actor. After graduating from Highland Park High School he studied at State University of New York at Oneonta in New York.
In 1974 along with Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry, the three founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. In time he even worked as a director for a number of Steppenwolf's productions such as, "True West". He then took a chance at the Hollywood scene but different from many other actors, he began his career in Hollywood as a director.
He first directed two episodes of, "Crime Story" (1986) and then the film, "Miles From Home" (1988). In 1992, Gary first worked as a film actor in, "A Midnight Clear" and then as an actor as well as director on, "Of Mice and Men" (1992).
Other film roles soon followed in, "The Stand" (1994), "Forrest Gump" (1994), "Apollo 13" (1995) and then the television movie, "Truman" (1995) for which he earned a Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and an Emmy nomination.
More recent roles include the film, "Ransom" (1996) where he portrayed Detective Jimmy Shaker. Currently stars on the hit television series, "CSI: NY" (2004-2011) as Detective Mac Taylor.
Along with a decent resume as a stage, television and film actor as well as director, Sinise is also the host at Epcot studio's for the ride, Mission: SPACE in Orlando Florida. He also narrated a mini series on the Discovery Channel called, "When We Left Earth" in 2008.
Gary Sinise is also the executive producer for the war documentary, "Brothers at War" and is the national Spokesperson for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. He is also a member of the Advisory Council for, "Hope For the Warriors" which is a non profit organization that helps provide non-medical care to soldiers wounded in combat.
Gary Sinise heads up a Rock band, 'Lt. Dan Band', aptly named for a character he played in the "Forrest Gump" movie (1994) starring Tom Hanks and Sally Field which performs at concerts around the country to raise funds for the express purpose of assisting severly wounded soldiers to reaclimate themselves to life after losing limbs in war.
Sinise has married only once to Moira Sinise in 1981 and they have three children and remain together today.
