FREDDIE PRINZE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Freddie Prinze was born on June 22nd, 1954 in New York City, New York with the birth name Frederick Karl Pruetzel.  His parents were Maria and Karl Pruetlzel, both Hungarian Jewish immigrants who raised him in New York City.  After enrolling in Fiorella LaGuardia High School where he excelled in performing arts, he found work at a local Improv Club where he was able to share his comedic talent with audiences.  However, due to working late hours and missing a number of school days, he chose to drop out of high school and focus on an entertainment career.

In 1973, he was asked to appear on, "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" where he made quite an impression on viewers nationwide.  It did not take long for Prinze to get cast in his most well known career role as, Chico Rodriquez in, "Chico and the Man" which aired on NBC and in total he appeared in sixty two episodes throughout his career.

This show also helped him launch his first comedy album titled, "Looking Good" in 1975 and he continued to make appearances on television talk shows such as, "Tony Orlando & Dawn Show" (1975).

Just as his career was at it's peak, his personal life was heading the wrong direction.  He had developed a drug addiction and was unable to battle it.  He admitted to many friends and family that he was contemplating suicide and then in January 1977 he made a phone call to his mother, his manager and his friends saying goodbye and notifying them of his plans to take his life.  Before anyone could stop him, Freddie Prinze took a gun to his head and although he did not die right away, he was held at UCLA on life support until January 29th, 1977 until his life support was turned off.

Freddie Prinze was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery and was survived by his wife, Kathy Prinze and their infant son, Freddie Prinze Jr. who later became a famous actor and followed in his fathers professional footsteps.

He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Television.
