FRED THOMPSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
 
Fred Thompson was born on August 19th, 1942 in Sheffield, Alabama with the birth name Freddie Dalton Thompson, to parents, Ruth Inez and Fletcher Session Thompson.  After graduating from Lawrence High School and prior to working as a lawyer, Thompson actually was employed in a number of various odd jobs such as a shoe salesman, truck driver and worked in a factory. 
 
He attended college, first at Florence State College and then transferred to Memphis State University and earned two degrees, one in philosophy and one in political science.  Then he received a scholarship to study at Vanderbilt University and in 1967, earned his Juris Doctor degree.     
 
His career actually began as an attorney before he later pursued acting.  He first worked as an assistant U.S Attorney from 1969 through 1972 and was also a campaign manager for Republican US Senator, Howard Baker.  He went on to be involved in law with personal injury claims and also did legal work for an engineering firm called, Stone & Webster.  In 1973 he was actually also involved in assisting the Republican Senators on the Senate Watergate Committee helping to investigate the Watergate scandal. He also worked as a lobbyist in Washington D.C. for seventeen years.
 
Thompson also worked on the case of, Marie Ragghianti's which was turned into a plot for a book and published in 1983.  Later the book was made into a film and Thompson was asked to play himself in the movie bringing on his first acting job and his introduction to the industry. 
 
Soon he became more involved in acting appearing in such films as, "No Way Out" (1987), "Die Hard 2" (1990) and "The Hunt for Red October" (1990).  He would add a number of film and television credits to his resume throughout his career in the industry.  Along with working as an actor during this time, he served on the United States Senate representing Tennessee between 1994 and 2003.      
 
He is very well known for portraying Presidents such as in the film, "Last Best Chance" and "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" (2007).  In 2002 he was cast in one of his most well known roles on the television series, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent".  
 
Fred Thompson is the only actor to date who has had a role as a regular on two different "Law & Order" series at the same time, "Law & Order" (1990) and  "Law & Order: Trail By Jury" (2005) where he portrays District Attorney Arthur Branch.  He has actually played this character in five different "Law & Order" series.
 
He took a break from acting and also tried to run for President in 2008, but never won a single primary, therefore he ended his presidential campaign.  In 2009, he returned back to acting and appeared on the television series, "Life on Mars" followed by some more recent roles in such films as, "Iron men", "The Genesis Code" (2010), "Secretariat" (2010), "The Last Ride" (2011) and soon to release, "Sinister".
 
Throughout his lifetime he has been married twice.  His first wife was Sarah Elizabeth Lindsey whom he wed in 1959 and after having three children this marriage came to an end in 1985.  He then married Jeri Kehn Thompson in 2002 and he an additional two children and they remain married today.
 
Although he worked as an actor, he has remained involved in politics and has used his knowledge and experience in both careers to make a difference in a variety of situations.  Thompson has done commercials and voice over work for political causes and for non-profit organizations.  He also served up until 2007 as Chair of the International Security Advisory Board that would advise the State Department about issues involving arm control, disarmament and international security.
 
He has also done some radio work at the latter part of his career as well as worked as a columnist writing for a magazine.  He married at the age of seventeen, Sarah Elizabeth Lindsey and they have two son's and one daughter.  In 1985 this marriage came to an end then in 2002, he married his second wife, Jeri Kehn and with her they have one son and one daughter.
