EVA MARIE SAINT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Eva Marie Saint was born on July 4th, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey to parents, Eva Marie and John Merle Saint. After graduating from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York in 1942 she went on to enroll at Bowling Green State University and studied acting.
She first became involved in the acting industry working on television on the NBC show, “Campus Hoopla” (1946-1947) followed by an appearance on, “Bonnie Maid Versa-Tile Varieties. As her career progressed she mainly worked in radio and more television before she was awarded the Drama Critics Award for her role on the Broadway production of, “The Trip to Bountiful” (1953).
It did not take too long to receive her next honor with an Emmy nomination for, “Best Actress in A Single Performance” on, “The Philco Television Playhouse” followed by another Emmy nomination in 1955 for her role in a production of, “Our Town”.
Soon she was earning the nickname, 'The Helen Hayes of Television' due to her high level of success she was acquiring. Even with her success in television, she decided to now try working in films. At the age of thirty she debuted in the film, “On the Waterfront” (1954) for which she earned her first Oscar followed by other well know film roles were, “North by Northwest” (1959) and “Raintree County” (1957).
Already, Saint had an amazing resume, but continued to add to it with a role in, “A Hatful of Rain” (1957) and her most well known role in, Alfred Hitchcock’s, “North by Northwest” (1959).
As her career continued she went on to appear on the big screen with Tom Hanks in, “Nothing in Common” (1986) and she won another Emmy with her role in the television miniseries, “People Like Us” (1990) and another film appearance in, “I Dreamed of Africa” (2000) and “Don’t Come Knocking” (2005). Her last known appearance were in 2005 in, “Because of Winn-Dixie” 2006 in, “Superman Returns” and 2011 in two screenings of "North by Northwest".
Eva Marie Saint continues to work in the industry today and remains married to her one and only husband, Jeffrey Hayden whom she married in 1951 and has two children with. She has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to television and Motion Pictures.
