EDWARD ANDREWS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Edward Andrews was born on October 9th, 1914 in Griffin, Georgia. By the age of twelve he was already performing as a stage actor and then he joined a stock company adding more theater credits to his resume. He also attended the University of Virginia for three years and then made his Broadway debut in 1935.
By the mid 30's he appeared in his first film, "Rushin' Art" (1936) but then returned to stage acting up until 1950 when he was cast on the television series, "Mama". As his career progressed he alternated between stage, television and film work.
Some of his more well known film roles included, "The Phenix City Story" (1955) with John McIntire and Richard Kiley, "The Young Doctors" (1961) starring starring Ben Gazzara, Fredric March, Dick Clark, Ina Balin, Eddie Albert, Phyllis Love, Aline MacMahon, George Segal and Dolph Sweet, "Advise and Consent" (1962) starring alongside Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, Don Murray, Walter Pidgeon, Peter Lawford, Gene Tierney, Franchot Tone, Lew Ayres, Burgess Meredith, Eddie Hodges, Paul Ford, George Grizzard, Inga Swenson, Will Geer and Betty White, "Youngblood Hawke" (1964) starring James Franciscus, Suzanne Pleshette, Genevieve Page, Eva Gabor, Mary Astor, Lee Bowman, Don Porter, John Dehner, Hayden Rorke, Mildred Dunnock, Kent Smith, John Emery and Werner Klemperer, "The Over-the-Hill Gang" (1969) starring Walter Brennan, Edgar Buchanan, Chill Wills, Pat O'Brien, Jack Elam, Andy Devine, Gypsy Rose Lee, Ricky Nelson and William Smith, "Tora! Along with film work he made numerous guest appearances on a variety of television shows such as, "Love, American Style", "Justice", "Cheyenne', "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", "Climax!", "The Danny Thomas Hour", "Bewitched', "Hawaii Five-O", "Sanford and Son", "Rawhide", "Naked City", "Gunsmoke", "Hands of Mystery", "Charlie's Angels", "Playhouse 90", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Bonanza" and "The Bob Newhart Show", among others.
In addition to stage, film and television work, many remember him for his commercial work for a long distance telephone company.
Edward Andrews married only once to a lady by the name of Emily and they had three children together. On March 8th, 1985, Andrews passed away in Santa Monica, California after suffering from a heart attack at the age of seventy. His remains were cremated and scattered in the Ocean.
