Edie Adams ACTOR

Edie Adams was born on April 16th, 1927 in Kingston, Pennsylvania with the birth name Edith Elizabeth Erike, born to parents Sheldon and Ada.  At a young age her family relocated to Grove City and then again to New Jersey.  After she completed high school, Adams had goals of pursuing a career as an opera singer and she went to further her education at New York’s Julliard School of Music studying voice and piano followed by enrolling in acting class at the Columbia School of Drama.
In 1947, she had her theatrical stage debut in, “Blithe Spirit” followed by a role in, “Goodnight Ladies”.  When she was cast in, Arthur Godfrey’s “Talent Scouts” show, although she did not win, a director took notice of her and her career was about to take off.

First in 1952, she was signed as a featured singer on, “Ernie Kovacs Comedy Show” followed by roles in, “Ernie in Kovacsland” (1951), “Kovacs on the Corner" (1952) and “The Ernie Kovacs Show” (1951). 
She continued to work on a number of stage productions such as, “Wonderful Town” (1952), “The Merry Widow” (1957), “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1960) and “Free as a Bird” (1960).  She also continued to work in television making appearances on, “Cinderella” (1957) and was also on a number of celebrity game and talk shows.
She is also remembered for a couple film roles such as, “Love with the Proper Stranger” (1963), “The Best Man” (1964), “Call Me Bwana” (1963), “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” (1963), “Under the Yum Yum Tree” (1963) and “The Honey Pot” (1967).  She also had her own musical variety show, “Here’s Edie” (1962) which earned her a couple Emmy nominations.
Throughout her lifetime, she married three times.  Her first husband was, Ernie Kovacs from 1952 through 1968, after having one child together.  She then married, Martin Mills in 1964 and they had one child before the marriage ended in 1971.  Her third and final marriage was to Pete Candoli in 1972 and this marriage also ended in divorce in 1988. 
Sadly at the age of twenty, she lost her daughter in a Los Angeles car accident and then she passed away at the age of eighty one, on October 15th, 2008 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from pneumonia.  She is interred at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills Cemetery.
