EDDIE QUILLAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Eddie Quillan was born on March 31st, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Edward Quillan, born to Joseph and Sarah Quillan.  Both of his parents were well known vaudeville performers and at the young age of seven he began performing in vaudeville along with his one sister and three brothers in an act they called, "The Rising Generation".   

Later Quillan without his siblings was chosen by Mack Sennett to work on the short film, "A Love Sundae" (1926) starring alongside Alice Day, Danny O'Shea and Ruth Taylor.  This followed with over twenty more short films with Sennett during his course of his career some of which included, "Alice Be Good" (1926) starring with Alice Day, Ruth Taylor and Joseph Young, "The College Kiddo" (1927) also starring Madeline Hurlock, Barney Hellum and Ruth Taylor, "Ain't Nature Grand" (1927) and "Red Hot Bullets" (1927) with George Davis.

Soon he found work as a freelance actor adding more film credits to his resume such as, "The Godless Girl" (1929) co-starring Lina Basquette, Marie Provost, Tom Keene and Noah Beery Sr., "The Sophomore" (1929) co-starring Sally O'Neill, Jeanette Loff and Stanley Smith, "Big Money" (1930) co-starring Robert Armstrong, James Gleason, Lucien Littlefield and Lucille Ward, "Girl Crazy" (1932) starring Bert Wheeler, Robert Woolsey, Arline Judge, Dorothy Lee and Stanley Fields, "Mutiny on the Bounty" (1935) starring Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, Franchot Tone, Henry Stephenson, Spring Byington, Stanley Fields, with James Cagney and David Niven as uncredited extras, "Young Mr. Lincoln" (1939) starring Henry Fonda, Alice Brady, Richard Cromwell and Ward Bond, "Allegheny Uprising" (1939) starring John Wayne, Diana Claire Trevor, George Sanders, Brian Donlevy, Wilfrid Lawson, Robert Barrat, Moroni Olson and Chill Wills and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940) starring Henry Fonda, John Carradine, Jane Darwell, Shirley Mills, John Qualen, Charley Grapewin, Darryl Hickman, Ward Bond and Eddie Waller.

Although he was staying busy in Hollywood, the roles he was receiving were not to the level of caliber he had hoped to achieve as an actor.  He remained taking on more film roles in mostly 'B' pictures such as, "Brigadoon" (1954) starring Gene Kelly, Van Johnson and Cyd Charisse, "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" (1966) starring Don Knotts, Joan Staley, Liam Redmond, Dick Sargent, Lurene Tuttle and Skip Homeier, "Angel in My Pocket" (1969) starring Andy Griffith, Lee Meriwether, Jerry Van Dyke, Kay Medford, Henry Jones, Edgar Buchanan, Elena Verdugo and Gary Collins, "The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again" (1970) starring Walter Brennan, Fred Astaire, Parley Baer, Walter Burke, Edgar Buchanan, Andy Devine, Chill Wills, Lana Wood and Burt Mustin and "How to Frame a Figg" (1971) starring Don Knotts, Joe Flynn and Yvonne Craig.

In addition to his film work he did work quite a bit as a television actor appearing on the series, "77 Sunset Strip", "The Texan", "The Real McCoys", "The Lucy Show", "Mister Ed", "Death Valley Days", "Police Story", "Baretta", "Little House on the Prairie", "Highway to Heaven", "The Bob Cummings Show", "Checkmate", "Bonanza", "Petticoat Junction", "Richard Diamond, Private Detective", "Lock Up", "Here's Lucy", "Burke's Law", "Hennesey", "The Rifleman" and "Matlock".

Eddie Quillan never married nor had any children of his own.  On July 19th, 1990 Quillan passed away from cancer in Burbank, California and his remains buried at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
