Edd Byrnes ACTOR

Edd Byrnes was born on July 30th, 1933 in New York City, New York with the birth name Edward Breitenberger.  He had a brother and a sister and his childhood was a very unhappy one.  His father was an alcoholic and was not around to support the family, therefore, his mother had to work a number of jobs to make sure the family had financial support.

He lost his father at the age of thirteen and would try to escape reality by working out and going to watch movies at the local theater.  He was only seventeen years old when a man offered to take photos of him due to his manly physique.  He realized at this time that he was heterosexual, but would still hustle these older men in order to get ahead in life.  He was mentored in fashion and culture and developed an interest in acting.
Hi acting career first begin working in summer-stock and also had the opportunity to work small bit parts on a number of television shows.  In 1955, he decided to relocate to California and was cast in a number of films before he got a decent break as 'Kookie' on the television show, "77 Sunset Strip" (1958).  Edd was put under contract with Warner Brothers which actually hindered his career in some ways.  Edd was forced to turn down a number of film roles and soon left the set of, "77 Sunset Strip" and began to get an addiction to alcohol.
He did come to an agreement with his contract with Warner Brothers and returned to the set of "77 Sunset Strip" however ratings soon dropped and the show was eventually cancelled.  Edd was offered a couple more film and television roles, but for the most part by the time he reached the age of thirty his career had died out.  He did however appear in the film, "Greece" (1978) as Vince Fontaine .
Byrnes only married one time to Asa Maynor from March 25th, 1962 and they had one son together before they divorced in 1971 and he never remarried again.  Edd Byrnes was ranked #5 in TV Guide's list of, "25 Greatest Teen Idols" (2005).  Byrnes wrote an autobiography in 1996 entitled "Kookie No More."
