DUB TAYLOR BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dub Taylor was born on February 26th, 1907 in Richmond, Virginia with the birth name Walter Clarence Taylor II. At the age of five along with his four siblings, relocated to Augusta, Georgia.
He became most popular as an actor appearing in a variety of westerns. Many remember him from his role portraying, Ivan Moss in, "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967). He actually began his involvement in the industry with his talent as a xylophone player. He performed in vaudeville and he was cast in his first film, "You Can't Take It With You" (1938) because he knew how to play this particular instrument.
Soon more film roles followed such as, "The Taming of the West" (1939) playing the character, 'Cannonball', which he continued to portray this character in a number of other western films over the next ten years such as, "One Man's Law" (1940), "The Wildcat of Tucson" (1940), "The Return of Daniel Boone" (1941) and "The Son of Davy Crocket" (1941) among many others.
Other films he appeared on were, "King of Dodge City" (1941), "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939), "A Star is Born" (1954), and "Them!" (1954). Although he is still today most known for the numerous times he portrayed Cannonball in westerns he was also cast in a variety of television series throughout his career such as, "Life with Buster Keaton", "The Range Rider", "I love Lucy", "Cheyenne", "Casey Jones", "Outlaws", "Surfside 6", "Perry Mason", 'Twilight Zone", "77 Sunset Strip", "Burke's Law", "The Virginian", "The Monroes", "Iron Horse", "The Monkees", "The Interns", "Bonanza" and "How the West Was Won" among many others.
He is also remembered today for his trademark bowler hat, which he the majority of times he appeared on television or film, he wore this hat. In the 1990's he made two cameo appearances, one in, "Back to the Future III" and the other in the film, "Maverick".
Dub had one son, Buck Taylor who also grew up to pursue a career as an actor and a daughter, Faydean Taylor Tharp. On October 3rd, 1994 Dub Taylor passed away in Los Angeles, California after suffering from congestive heart failure. His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered near Westlake Village in California.
