DOUGLAS FOWLEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Douglas Fowley was born on May 30th, 1911 in The Bronx, New York with the birth name Daniel Vincent Fowley. After graduating from high school, he worked various jobs such as a copy boy, runner for a Wall Street broker, a salesman and even a professional football player for some time.

He then relocated to Los Angeles, California and enrolled at Los Angeles City College.

Fowley then took a break from pursuing a career to join the United States Navy and fought during World War II. While he was attending St. Francis Xavier Military Academy, he began to develop an interest in the acting arena.

Once he completed his military service he began pursuing work as a stage actor and also performed in a number of nightclubs. Soon he broke into the film world appearing in such features as, "The Mad Game" (1933) starring Spencer Tracy, Claire Trevor and Frank Morgan, "I Hate Woman" (1934) starring Wallace Ford, June Clyde and John Forrest 'Fuzzy' Knight, "Two For Tonight" (1935) starring Bing Crosby, Joan Bennett and Lyn Thomas and "Big Brown Eyes" (1936) also starring Cary Grant, Joan Bennett and Walter Pidgeon.

One of his most well remembered roles was in, "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor, Jean Hagen, Cyd Charisse, Rita Moreno and Millard Mitchell. Other film credits included, "Sunset on the Desert" (1942) starring Roy Rogers, George 'Gabby' Hayes and Lynne Carver, "Jitterbugs" (1943) starring Laurel and Hardy, "North of the Border" (1946) starring Russell Hayden and Inez Cooper, "Backlash" (1947) starring Jean Rogers, Richard Travis, Larry J. Blake and Eldredge, "Red River Shore" (1953) starring with Rex Allen and Slim Pickens, "The High and the Mighty" (1954) starring alongside John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Robert Stack, Laraine Day, Jan Sterling, Phil Harris, Robert Newton, George Chandler, Paul Fix, David Brian, Paul Kelly, William Hopper, Regis Toomey, Julie Bishop, Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer, Sidney Blackmer and William Schallert and "The Naked Jungle" (1954) starring Charlton Heston, Eleanor Parker, Abraham Sofaer and William Conrad.

Majority of his characters he portrayed in films were that of villains, but he was able to show that he was a very capable actor in various roles on television. He appeared on a variety of television series such as, "The Abbott and Costello Show" (1953), "City Detective" (1954), "The Public Defender" (1954), "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" (1955), "Crossroads" (1956), "Lassie" (1956), "Perry Mason" (1957), "The Texan" (1959), "Pistols 'n Petticoats" (1966), "The Lucy Show" (1966), "The Streets of San Francisco" (1972), "The Rockford Files" (1974), "Oregon Trail" (1976), "Family" (1976) and his final television role was in, "Father Murphy" (1982).

Douglas Fowley married a total of seven different woman throughout his lifetime. He had a total of four children and none of his marriages lasted over a long period of time. He lived with his seventh wife up until his death at the age of eighty six, on May 21st, 1998 in Woodland Hills, California at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital.
