DON MURRAY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Don Murray was born on July 31st, 1929 in Hollywood, California with the birth name Donald Patrick Murray. He went to East Rockaway High School in East Rockaway, New York and was very athletic playing football and on the track team. After high school he went on to study drama at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
His entertainment career first began by working on summer stock in new York, Delaware and Connecticut in the mid 40's. Soon he was appearing on the Broadway stage in a production of, "The Rose Tattoo" (1951-1952). Don took a brief break from acting to work during the Korean War in Europe assisting refugees and orphans and then after the war he returned right back to acting with his next role on "The Skin of Our Teeth" (1955).
Director Joshua Logan saw him in this production and hired Murray to work on his first film. From this point on his career headed up and since the start of his stage performances he has now appeared on a number of films and television series.
Some of his more well known roles were on the film, "Advise & Consent" (1961), "The Outcasts" (1968-1969), the soap opera, "Knots Landing" (1979-1981) and for the film, "Bus Stop" (1956) starring Marilyn Monroe, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.
Some of his other film roles were on, "A Hatful of Rain" (1957), "The Bachelor Party" (1957), "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" (1972), "Baby the Rain Must Fall" (1965).
Along with working as an actor he had the opportunity to direct a film, "The Cross and the Switchblade" (1970) and also wrote two episodes of "Knots Landing". Some of his more recent roles were on the short lived television series, "Brand New Life" (1989-1990), "Sons and Daughters" (1991) and the films " Elvis is Alive" (2001), "Island Prey" (2005) and his most recent role "The Hard Ride" (2011). He continues to live in Los Angeles and take on new and exciting roles.
