DAVID MCCALLUM BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

David McCallum was born on September 19th, 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland in the United Kingdom with the birth name David Keith McCallum.  His father, David McCallum Sr. was a professional violinist for the London Philharmonic and his mother, Dorothy Dorman was a cellist.

At the age of ten, his family relocated to London and he began getting involved in local drama productions.  By the age of seventeen he was appearing on the stage in a production of, "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Due to his family's involvement in the entertainment industry, McCallum also developed an interest in music.  After earning a scholarship to study at the University College School in Hamstead, London he then studied at the Royal Academy of Music, but soon switched to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

His acting career began by first working on BBC Radio doing voice over work in 1947 and then as an assistant stage manager at the Glyndebourne Opera Company in 1951.  In the United Kingdom he worked on about a dozen films such as, "Violent Playground" (1957) starring Stanley Baker, Peter Cushing and Anne Heywood, "Robbery Under Arms" (1957) co-starring Peter Finch, Ronald Lewis, Laurence Naismith and Jill Ireland and "A Night to Remember" (1958) starring with Kenneth More, Honor Blackman, Laurence Naismith, Michael Goodliffe, Ronald Allen and Robert Ayres.

His first American film role was in the John Huston directed, "Freud: the Secret Passion" (1962) starring Montgomery Clift, Susannah York, Larry Parks, Susan Kohner and Eileen Herlie and soon he followed with one of his best known roles as Lt. Wyatt in, "Billy Budd" (1962) starring Terence Stamp, Peter Ustinov, Robert Ryan and Melvyn Douglas followed by "The Great Escape" (1963) starring Steve McQueen, James Garner, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, Charles Bronson and Richard Attenborough just to name a few and then he portrayed Judas Iscariot in the religious epic "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965) with an ensemble cast including Max von Sydow, Dorothy McGuire, Jose Ferrer, Claude Rains, Charlton Heston, Telly Savalas, Roddy McDowall, Martin Landau, Joseph Schildkraut, Ed Wynn and Michael Anderson Jr.and a host of other great stars in smaller roles such as Michael Ansara, Ina Balin, Carroll Baker, Robert Blake, Pat Boone, Victor Buono, Richard Conte, Jamie Farr, David Hedison, Van Heflin, Russell Johnson, Angela Lansbury, Robert Loggia, John Lupton, Sal Mineo, Nehemiah Persoff, Sidney Poitier, Gary Raymond, John Wayne and Shelley Winters.

He became best known for his role as agent llya Kuryakin in the television series, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." (1964) which also starred Robert Vaughn and Leo G. Carroll.  Throughout the run of the series, he received two Emmy nominations and later in 1983 he reprised his role in the television movie, "The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Year Later Affair".

Other television roles he is known for are from his appearances on, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Master", "Sapphire & Steel", "Colditz" and " The Invisible Man ".  Although he continued to work in the industry, no role that he undertook ever reached the level of popularity that he had achieved from his role in, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.".

David also starred in an adventure film "King Solomon's Treasure" (1979) with John Boylan, Véronique Béliveau, John Colicos, Wilfrid Hyde-White, Patrick Macnee, Britt Ekland and Yvon Dufour which loosely followed the 1950 "King Solomon's Mine" starring Deborah Kerr, Stewart Granger and Richard Carlson.

Some of his latest appearances have been on, "Babylon 5", "Titanic: Death of a Dream" (1994) and since 2003 he has been working on the hit television series, "NCIS" as Dr. Donald 'Ducky' Mallard also starring Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, Sean Murray and Cote de Pablo.

Along with his decent success as an actor, McCullum also recorded four albums for Capital records, although he did not sing on these records.

McCallum has married twice throughout his lifetime.  His first wife was actress Jill Ireland in 1957 and after having three children the marriage ended in 1967.  He then married Katherine Eaton Carpenter in 1967 and they have two children and remain together today.  He currently resides in New York and continues to work in the industry as an actor.
