DABBS GREER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Dabbs Greer was born on April 2nd, 1917 in Fairview, Missouri with the birth name Robert William Greer.  He was born an only child and his father, Randall Alexander Greer worked as a pharmacist and his mother, Bernice Irene Dabbs was employed as a speech therapist.

He first became involved in acting when he performed at the age of eight in a children's theater production.  After graduating from high school he enrolled at Drury College and graduated with a BA degree.  He then found work at the Little Theatre in Mountain Grove, Missouri running their drama department.

Greer then relocated to California and found work at the Pasadena Playhouse as an actor as well as an instructor and administrator.  Now that he was living in Los Angeles he began to also turn his focus towards a career as a working actor.  It did not take long for him to have his film debut in 1949 in, "Reign of Terror".

Throughout his career as an actor he never limited himself to one specific type of role.  He played everything from merchants, preachers, businessmen and even villains on occasion.

He is most remembered for his role as the Reverend Alden on the television series, "Little House on the Prairie" (1974).  Throughout his career he also had recurring roles on such series as, "Gunsmoke" (1955), "Hank" (1965) and "Picket Fences" (1992).

With over 300 roles added to his credits, he made numerous guest appearances on a variety of other popular television series such as, "The Lone Ranger", "The Man Behind the Badge", "Climax!", "Lassie", "The F.B.I.", "Bonanza", "The Virginian", "Perry Mason", "Wagon Train", "Rawhide", "The Untouchables", "The Detectives", "Code 3", "Sheriff of ochise", "Bat Masterson", "The Loretta Young Show", "The Rifleman", "Death Valley Days", "Lux Video Theatre", "Space Patrol", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", Zane Grey Theatre" and "Fireside Theatre" among numerous others.

He also starred in a number of television movies such as, "The Forest Ranger" (1956), "Two Boys" (1970) and "Green Eyes" (1977).  Although he mainly focused on television roles throughout his career, he did appear on the big screen in a number of films in the beginning of his career, however most were just small parts and were un-credited.  He did receive credit for his role in, "I Want to Live!" (1958) starring Susan Hayward, Joe De Santis and Simon Oakland and "The Green Mile" (1999) starring Tom Hanks.

Some of his latest appearances towards the end of his career were guest roles on, "Spin City" (2000), "Diagnosis Murder" (2001), "Family Law" (2001), "Maybe It's Me" (2001-2002) and "Lizzie McGuire" (2003).

Dabbs Greer never married and never had any children at all.  He passed away on April 28th, 2007 in Pasadena, California after suffering from renal failure and heart disease.
