COLIN CLIVE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Colin Clive was born on January 20th, 1900 in St. Malo, France with the birth name Colin Glenn Cline-Greig. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst but due to a knee injury was discharged from continuing his service and instead chose to pursue a career as an actor.
Some of his earlier stage performances were on such productions as, "Journey's End", "Show Boat" and "The Stronger Sex" (1931). He is most well known today for his portrayal of Dr. Frankenstein in James Whale's Universal films titled, "Frankenstein" (1931) starring with Mae Clarke, John Boles, Boris Karloff, Dwight Frye, Frederick Kerr and Edward van Sloan and "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935) also starring Boris Karloff as The Monster, Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of his mate and Mary Shelley and Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Septimus Pretorius.
Some of his other film roles were on "Jane Eyre" (1934) with Virginia Bruce, "Clive of India" (1935) with Ronald Colman, Loretta Young, C. Aubrey Smith, Cesar Romero, Montague Love, Leo G. Carroll, Francis Lister and Mischa Auer and his final two film roles were on, "History Is Made at Night" (1937) co-starring Jean Arthur, Leo Carrillo, Byron Foulger and Charles Boyer and "The Woman I love" (1937) starring with Paul Muni, Miriam Hopkins, Louis Hayward, Paul Guilfoyle, Sterling Holloway, Elisabeth Risdon, Wally Albright and Minor Watson.
Colin Clive married only one time to Jeanne De Casalis in 1929 and they remained together until he passed away at the age of thirty seven on June 25th, 1937 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from pneumonia which was caused by his long history addiction to alcoholism.
After his ashes spent 40 years unclaimed in the basement of the funeral parlor where his body was brought after he passed away, they were finally scattered at sea in 1978.
