CLARENCE WILLIAMS III BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Clarence Williams III was born on August 21st, 1939 in New York City, New York and was raised by his grandparents. His grandfather was a jazz music composer and pianist by the name of Clarence Williams and his grandmother, Eve Taylor was a blues singer. Being raised in a family of entertainers peaked his interest in show business.
As a teenager he went to the local YMCA and began to develop an interest in acting. He then however, took a break from pursuing a career in entertainment to join the United States Air Force. After completing his service, Williams embarked on a career as an actor.
He began with working in New York as a stage actor appearing in such productions as, "The Long Dream" (1960), "Walk in Darkness" (1963), 'Sarah and the Sax" (1964), "Doubletalk" (1964) and "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground" (1964) for which he won his first Theatre World Award as well as a Tony nomination.
It did not take long for him to gain the attention of Hollywood and he began appearing on such television series as, "Tarzan" (1968), "The Mod Squad" (1968-1973) and "Great Mysteries" (1974).
Although he had finally begun to make a name for himself in the Hollywood scene he continued to return back to working as a stage actor being seen in such productions as, "Night and Day" (1979). Williams also worked in films appearing on the big screen in features such as, "Purple Rain" (1984), "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" (1988), "Deep Cover" (1992) and "Sugar Hill" (1993).
In addition to his stage work, early television roles and film appearances he also gained more popularity when he was on the television series, "Twin Peaks" (1990) as a recurring role of Roger Hardy.
He has been married only once to Gloria Foster whom he wed in 1967 and divorced later in 1984. They maintained a friendship after their divorce and she passed away in 2001. He continues to work in the industry with some of his latest appearances being on, "The Way of War" (2009) and the television series, "Burn Notice" (2009), "Cold Case" (2009), "Justified" (2010) and "Memphis Beat" (2010).
