CHUBBY JOHNSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Chubby Johnson was born on August 13th, 1903 in Terra Haute, Indiana with the birth name Charles Rutledge Johnson.  His first professional job was working as a journalist and did not become involved in the entertainment industry until his late 40's.
 
His film debut was in, "Abilene Town" (1946) starring Randolph Scott, Ann Dvorak, Edgar Buchanan, Rhonda Fleming and Lloyd Bridges and although he was now trying to find work as an actor he continued to still work as a columnist and even a radio announcer.  His next film role came only four years later when he was cast in the film, "Rocky Mountain" (1950) starring Errol Flynn, Patrice Wymore, Scott Forbes, Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Sheb Wooley, Dickie Jones and Slim Pickens.
 
He is most remembered for his role on the Rocky Lane television series as well as, "Sky King" (1951).  Other small film roles followed such as, "Bend of the River" (1952) starring James Stewart, Arthur Kennedy, Julie Adams, and Rock Hudson, Harry Morgan, Stepin Fetchit, Royal Dano, Frances Bavier, Jay C. Flippen and Howard Petrie, "The Far Country" (1954) starring James Stewart, Walter Brennan, Corinne Calvet, Ruth Roman, Jay C. Flippen, John McIntire, Robert J. Wilke, Jack Elam, Royal Dano, Harry Morgan, Steve Brodie and Connie Gilchrist, "Calamity Jane" (1953) starring Doris Day, Howard Keel and Philip Carey, "Cattle Queen of Montana" (1954) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Ronald Reagan, Gene Evans, Jack Elam and Morris Ankrum, "Tribute to a Bad Man" (1956) starring James Cagney, Don Dubbins, Stephen McNally, Lee Van Cleef and Vic Morrow, James Griffith and Irene Papas, "Twilight of Honor" (1963) starring Richard Chamberlain, Nick Adams, Claude Rains, James Gregory, Pat Buttram, Don 'Red' Barry, Joan Blackman, Jeanette Nolan and James Bell and featuring Joey Heatherton and Linda Evans in their film debuts and "Sam Whiskey" (1969) starring Burt Reynolds, Angie Dickinson, Clint Walker and Ossie Davis.
 
Chubby still continued with working on television appearing on, "Frontier Doctor" starring Rex Allen, "Bonanza", "Temple Houston", "Gunsmoke", "The Rifleman" starring Chuck Connors, Johnny Crawford and Paul Fix, "Rescue 8" starring Jim Davis and Lang Jeffries, "Dennis the Menace" and "Death Valley Days".
 
Chubby Johnson passed away on October 31st, 1974 at the age of seventy one after suffering from a leg infection.
