CHRISTOPHER REEVE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Christopher Reeve was born on September 25th, 1952 in New York City, New York to parents, Barbara Johnson and professor, Franklin Reeve. When he was just four years old his parents divorced and he and his brother moved with their mother to Princeton, New Jersey.
Once he completed high school, Reeve went on to study at Cornell University and was also already involved in the entertainment industry working as an actor. When he was almost done completing his college studies he was offered the opportunity to study at the Julliard School of Performing Arts.
Reeve made his Broadway debut in, "A Matter of Gravity" (1976) opposite Katharine Hepburn.
Reeve is most well known for his role in, "Superman" (1978) which he was cast in at the age of twenty four, becoming the youngest actor to ever portray superman.
Some of his other well known film roles were in, "Speechless" (1994) and "Somewhere in Time" (1980). He also portrayed the character, Dr. Swann on the television series, "Smallville" (2001).
Sadly in 1995, Reeve was paralyzed in a horseback-riding accident near Charlottesville, VA. Along with being a professional actor, Reeve was also a licensed pilot and wrote an autobiography, "Still Me". His last role prior to becoming paralyzed was in, "Above Suspicion" (1995) and his last theatrical role was in the film, "Village of the Damned" (1995).
Along with his wife, they opened a center called, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center in Short Hills, New Jersey, which taught paralyzed people how to live independently. In 2004 he was decorated by the Chilean government for his humanitarian work with the Bernardo O'Higgins Order.
Christopher Reeve married only once, to Dana Reeve in 1992, and they had one son, together, Will Reeve. They remained married until he passed away at the age of fifty two on October 10th, 2004 after suffering from heart failure in Mount Kisco, New York. He also had two other children, Matthew and Alexandra out of wedlock with Gae Exton.
