CHRISTOPHER LEE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Christopher Lee was born on May 27th, 1922 in Belgravia, London in England with the birth name Christopher Frank Carandini Lee. Both he and his older sister were raised by their parents, Estelle Marie and Geoffrey Trollope. Once his parents divorced in 1926 he lived with his mother and studied at Wellington College from age fourteen to seventeen and then found work in a number of different shipping companies doing office work.
During World War II he enlisted in the RAF in 1941 and upon completing his military service, Lee began taking acting training. He began appearing in a number of stage productions before he began getting cast in minor roles on television and in films.
As his career progressed to the mid 1950's, he was becoming more desired as an actor and he finally got his real big break being cast as, Dracula in, "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957) with Hammer Film Productions. His association with this company was his ticket to stardom with more prominent roles in such films as, "Horror of Dracula" (1958), "The Mummy" (1959) and "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1959).
He continued to portray Dracula in a number of films during the 60's and 70's but he also opened his own production company called, Charlemagne Productions, Ltd and made such films as, "Nothing But the Night" (1973) and "To the Devil a Daughter" (1976).
His career was highly successful except that Lee had been type cast as a horror film actor for so long, however unlike many other actors of his era who were unable to break away from their typecast roles, Lee was successful at doing just that. He went on to work on such features as "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" (1970), "The Three Musketeers: The Queen's Diamonds" (1973), "The Four Musketeers: Milady's Revenge" and even with James Bond on the film, "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974).
After a brief stay in Hollywood, Lee decided to go back to England and continue working as an actor oversees. He has always said he feels his most important film role was playing Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah in, "Jinnah" (1998) but other successful roles soon followed.
In the year 2000, he made a decent comeback when he appeared in, "The Lord of the Rings" The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001), "Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones" (2002) and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005).
Lee married only once in 1961 to Gitte Lee and they have one child together, Christina Erika Lee and remain married today. He is 6 feet 5 inches tall and therefore was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as, "The Tallest Leading Actor". In 2008. he received a lifetime achievement award at Pula Film Festival.
