CHARLOTTE GREENWOOD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Charlotte Greenwood was born on June 25th, 1890 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Frances Charlotte Greenwood. Her career in entertainment began working as a comedian and dancer in various night clubs as well as a vaudeville performer.
She then began to gain some experience as a stage performer on Broadway before later breaking into the film industry with some of her earlier film credits being, "Baby Mine" (1928) co-starring Karl Dane, George K. Arthur and Louise Lorraine and "Parlor, Bedroom and Bath" (1931) starring Buster Keaton, Edward Brophy, Reginald Denny and Cliff Edwards.
Some of her more well known film roles included, "Springtime in the Rockies" (1942) starring Betty Grable, John Payne, Carmen Miranda, Cesar Romero and Jackie Gleason, "Home in Indiana" (1944) starring with Walter Brennan, Lon McCallister, Jeanne Crain and June Haver, "Up in Mabel's Room (1944) starring Dennis O'Keefe, Marjorie Reynolds, Jack Oakie, Mischa Auer and Gail Patrick, "The Great Dan Patch" (1949) starring alongside Dennis O'Keefe, Gail Russell, Henry Hull, Arthur Hunnicutt, Clarence Muse and Harry Lauter, "Peggy" (1950), "Dangerous When Wet" (1953) starring Esther Williams, Fernando Lamas, William Demarest and Jack Carson, "Oklahoma!" (1955) starring Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones (in her film debut), Rod Steiger, Gloria Grahame, Gene Nelson, James Whitmore and Eddie Albert and "The Opposite Sex" (1956) also starring June Allyson, Joan Collins, Dolores Gray, Ann Sheridan, Ann Miller, Leslie Nielsen, Jeff Richards, Agnes Moorehead, Joan Blondell, Sam Levene, Dick Shawn, Jim Backus, Bill Goodwin and Harry James.
Greenwood was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to Radio. Her final role was on the television series, "The Best of the Post" (1961).
Charlotte Greenwood married twice throughout her lifetime, first to Cyril Ring in 1915 hover by 1920 this marriage came to an end. She then married Martin Broones in 1924 and they remained together until he passed away in 1971. She did not re-marry, nor did she have any children of her own. On December 28th, 1977, Greenwood passed away in Los Angeles, California at the age of eighty seven.
