CHARLES FARRELL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Charles Farrell was born on August 9th, 1900 in Onset Bay, Massachusetts. His father worked as a talent agent in Boston. When Farrell attended college he was very involved in school sports, however he decided that he wanted to pursue a career as an actor.
He began his career as an actor working on the stage and later decided to move to Hollywood and see if he could get involved in the film industry. He began with working on a number of films as an extra such as, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "The Ten Commandments" and "The Cheat" (all 1923) before being cast in the film, "Old Ironsides" (1926) which was his big break into the film industry.
He became a popular actor in the late silent era and also made the transition easily to sound films. Charles was signed by Fox Studio's and is most well known for his appearances on screen with actress, Janet Gaynor in a total of twelve films made between 1927 and 1934 such as, "Seventh Heaven", (1927), "Street Angel" (1928) and "Lucky Star" (1929).
In the early 1940's, he retired from acting and moved with his wife to Palm Springs. He was actually one of the early founders of Palm Springs and became a land developer there. He also owned Charlie Farrell's Racquet Ball Club and served as mayor from 1947 to 1955. He did make two more television appearances on the series, "My Little Margie" (1952-1955) starring Gale Storm and "The Charlie Farrell Show" (1956-1960) but other than that he remained in Palm Springs returned and focused on other interests.
Charles Farrell married only once to Virginia Valli on February 14th, 1931 and they never had any children together, but remained married until she passed away. Charles never remarried again and on May 6th, 1990, Farrell died in Palm Springs, California from cardiac arrest. He is buried at Welwood Murray Cemetery in Palm Springs, California.
