CEDRIC HARDWICKE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Cedric Hardwicke was born on February 19th, 1893 in  Lye, Worcestershire, England, UK with the birth name Cederic Webster Hardwicke to parents.  He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and after he completed his schooling he made his stage debut in 1912 on, "The Monk and the Woman".  
 
He took a break from acting to serve his country in the military during World War I from 1914 to 1921, but upon completion he returned right back to pursuing a career as an actor.  Cedric worked with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on, "Caesar and Cleopatra" (1922).  He was making such a good impression that in 1934 he became one of the youngest actors at the age of forty one to be knighted.
 
In 1931 he made his first appearance on an English film and in 1936 he was elected Rede Lecturer to Cambridge University.  
 
In 1936 he relocated to live in the United States and worked on the American stage circuit.  Cedric also became involved in the film industry working on such films as, "Les Misérables" (1935), "Stanley and Livingstone" (1939), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939), "Suspicion" (1941), "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1949), "Rickard III" (1955) and "The Ten Commandments" (1956). 
 
He never neglected his stage career and still traveled to London to perform on the circuit there.  He also worked on Broadway in, "Hell" (1951-1952).  He also worked on television making appearances on such shows as, "The Ford Show" (1958) and "Mrs. G Goes to College" (1961-1962) which ran for twenty six weeks and aired on CBS. 
 
His final film role was in 1964 on, "The Pumpkin Eater" and his final acting role was on an episode of, "The Outer Limits".  He died that same year on August 6th, 1964 in New York City, New York after suffering from emphysema and is buried in London's Golders Green Crematorium.  Cedric Hardwicke was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  
 
Cedric married twice throughout his lifetime.  His first wife was Helena Pickard whom he married in 1927 and they had one child together, Edward, before the marriage ended in 1950.  His second marriage was to Mary Scott whom he married on July 27th, 1950 and they remained together having one child until also ending this marriage in divorce on November 15th, 1961.
