Burt Reynolds ACTOR

Burt Reynolds was born on February 11th, 1936 in Waycross, Georgia with the birth name Burton Leon Reynolds Jr.  His parents Burton Reynolds and Fern Miller and his family relocated to Florida.  After he graduated from Palm Beach High School he enrolled at Florida State University and played football until he suffered a knee injury and a car accident ending his professional athlete goals.  He then decided to drop out of college and relocated to New York City in pursuit of a career as an actor.
He worked in a restaurant to pay his bills and found occasional jobs in acting.  When he was appearing on stage in, "Mister Roberts" he was spotted by a scout and was signed to a contract.  After making his Broadway debut in, "Look, We’ve come Through", he was appearing on such television shows as, "Gunsmoke"(1955), "Riverboat" (1959), "Hawk" (1966), "Perry Mason" (1962), "The Twilight Zone" (1963) and "12 O'Clock High" (1965) and he even starred in his own police crime drama titled "Dan August" (1971-1972).
His film debut was in, "Angel Baby" (1961) followed by some of his early film roles in, "Navajo Joe" (1966), "100 Rifles" (1969), "Sam Whiskey" (1969), "Deliverance" (1972), "Every Thing You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask" (1972) and "Shamus" (1973).
His career began in westerns but by the mid 1970's he was considered a male sex symbol and was even featured nearly nude in Cosmopolitan magazine.
As his career progressed his popularity increased with appearances in, "White Lightning" (1973), "The Longest Yard" (1974), "W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings" (1975), "Gator" (1976), "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977), "Smokey and the Bandit II" (1980) and "Smokey and the Bandit Part 3" (1983).

The late 70's and early 80's continued to be filled with a number of film roles to add to his resume.  He appeared on, "Semi-Tough" (1977), "Hooper" (1978), "The Cannonball Run" (1981), "Sharky's Machine" (1981), "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" (1982), "City Heat" (1982), "Stroker Ace" (1983), "Stick" (1985) and "Paternity" (1981).
As film roles began to become less available to him he found his niche in television appearing on such series as, "B.L. Stryker" (1989) and "Evening Shade" (1990) for which he earned an Emmy for his performance.
As time progressed he rose to fame again after appearing in the film, "Striptease" (1996) starring Demi Moore followed by a role in, "Boogie Nights" (1997) for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and won a Golden Globe.  He was now at the height of his career again and had earned a whole new group of younger fans.  As he continued to appear on the big screen in such films as, "Pups" (1999), "Mystery, Alaska" (1999), "Driven" (2001) and "Time of the Wolf" (2002).
Along with his stage, television and film career he also did voice work for  the video game, "Grand Theft Auto: Vice".  Some of his latest appearances have been in, "The Longest Yard" (2005), "Burn Notice" (2010) and "American Dad" (2011).
Burt Reynolds has married twice throughout his lifetime.  His first wife was actress Judy Carne from 1963 through 1965.  He then married Loni Anderson in 1988 and after having one child this marriage ended in divorce in 1995.
Along with his acting he was also involved in opening his own restaurant and nightclub called, "Burt's Place" in Atlanta Georgia and became a co-owner of the, Tampa Bay Bandits.  He also co-owned a NASCAR Winston Cup team.
In 1996 he filed bankruptcy owing more then $4.5 million in liabilities and in 2010 he underwent quintuple heart bypass surgery.  Currently he lives in Hobe Sound, Florida.
