Buddy Hackett was born on August 31st, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York with the birth name Leonard Hacker.  He received his high school diploma from New Utrecht High and his career in entertainment first began with him performing in night clubs as a comic.
He began to make a name for himself in Las Vegas and was known for his 'blue comedy' and adult content material.  Later on when he began to work in television and film, although he was still a comic, his humor was more geared towards family type material.  He took a brief break from performing when he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II.  Upon completing his service, he returned back to pursuing a career in entertainment.
Buddy also worked on Broadway in such productions as, "Lunatics and Lovers" and "I Had a Ball".  Some of his early television roles were on such shows as, "Jack Paar" and "Arthur Godfrey" talk shows.  He also appeared numerous times on the, "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson".  He became very popular during 1956-1957 when he starred on the television comedy series, "Stanley" which aired live on NBC in front of an audience.

He never neglected his first love of working night club acts and continued to perform in Las Vegas as well as a number of other cities.  Buddy was always remembered for his act on stage as, "The Chinese Waiter" which was such a hit he later made a recording of it and even reprised his role later in the Technicolor musical, "Walking My Baby Back Home" (1953) co-starring Donald O'Connor, Janet Leigh, Scatman Crothers, Lori Nelson, Kathleen Lockhart, George Cleveland and The Modernaires.
Hackett also appeared in numerous commercials such as advertisements for Tuscan Dairy Popsicles, yogurt and Lay's potato chips.  Buddy Hackett was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.
He married only once to Sherry Cohen in 1955 and they had three children together.  Together they started the Singita Animal Sanctuary in the San Fernando Valley in California.  They remained married until he passed away on June 30th, 2003 in Los Angeles, California from natural causes at the age of seventy eight.
