Bonnie studied at Quintano School for Young Professionals in New York and for a time she appeared with her brother, Kit on a number of local television and stage productions. As time progressed, she was discovered by a talent scout when she was just a young girl performing in a school production.

After taking some time to focus on her personal life, she made a comeback in 1983 in the film, "Heart Like a Wheel" starring with Beau Bridges.
Other more prominent film roles soon followed such as, "Violets Are Blue…" (1986) starring with Sissy Spacek and Kevin Kline, "The Prince of Pennsylvania" (1988) co-strring Fred Ward, Keanu Reeves and Amy Madigan, "Presumed Innocent" (1990) starring Harrison Ford, Brian Dennehy, Raul Julia and Paul Winfield, "Die Hard" (1988) starring Bruce Willis, "Die Hard 2" (1990) also starring Bruce Willis and "Needful Things" (1993).
