BILLY BENEDICT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Billy Benedict was born on April 16th, 1917 in Haskell, Oklahoma. Billy went to high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was very involved with the drama department. During the depression he decided to relocate to California initially with the goal of pursuing a career as a dancer.
After living in Hollywood for sometime, he realized that the competition to become a dancer was so difficult that he turned his sites on acting instead. He made his film debut with Fox Studio's in, "$10 Raise" (1935) and then was signed to Fox as a contract actor.
He was a regular on the, "Dead End Kids" films usually portraying a member of the East Side gang. This film series became "The Bowery Boys" and he played a recurring on this series as well from 1946 through 1951.
He never limited his acting to one type of film and was a very versatile actor. He played a variety of roles ranging from newspaper boy, messengers, office boys and farm hands. Some of his other film work included roles on, "Way Down East" (1935), "My Little Chickadee" (1940), "The Ox-Bow Incident" (1943), "The Sting" (1973) and "Farewell, My Lovely" (1975).
Along with working on television and films, Benedict appeared in a number of commercials and his final television roles were on the series, "Highway to Heaven" (1985) and "Bonanza" (1988).
Billy Benedict married only once in 1969 to a lady named Dolly and they never had any children together, nor is it known how long the marriage actually lasted. He passed away at the age of eighty two, on November 25th, 1999 in Los Angeles, California after he suffered complications due to heart surgery.
