BILLY BARTY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Billy Barty was born on October 25th, 1924 in Millsboro, Pennsylvania with the birth name William John Bertanzetti. At the age of three he was also involved in entertaining and by 1933 he was appearing in films. He was even cast as Mickey Rooney's little brother in the, "Mickey McGuire" comedy short series.
By the age of nine, he was working on, "The Gold Diggers of 1933" followed by roles in, "Footlight Parade" (1933), "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1935), "Nothing Sacred" (1937) and "Three Wise Fools" (1946).
Along with being a child actor he still managed to get an education and go on to major in journalism at L.A City College where he also excelled in athletics such as football and basketball.
Some of his later film roles as an adult were in, "The Day of the Locust" (1975), "W.C. Fields and Me" (1976), "The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington" (1977), "Foul Play" (1978), "The Lord of the Rings" (1978), "Under the Rainbow" (1981), "Night Patrol" (1984), "Willow" (1988) and "Radioland Murders" (1994).
Not only was he a film actor, but he also made numerous television appearances on such shows as, "The Redd Foxx Show", "The Dennis Day Show", "Club Oasis", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Red Skelton Hour", "CHiPs", "Fantasy Island", "Charlie's Angels", "The Love Boat and he also had his own children's show, "The Billy Barty's Bigtop".
Along with acting he was also very charitable and giving. He founded the, Little People of America in 1957 which membership was limited to anyone under 4'6" and also started the Billy Barty Foundation in 1975. He also owned a roller skating rink in Fullerton, California.
Barty married only once to Shirley Bolingbroke in 1962 and they had two children together and remained married until he passed away on December 23rd, 2000 in Glendale, California after suffering from heart failure. He is entombed in Glendale's Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
