BILL MCKINNEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Bill McKinney was born on September 12th, 1931 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a young boy his family moved to a variety of places and he never quite had a normal childhood. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and fought during the Korean War.
After his military duty he decided he wanted to pursue a career as an actor. He relocated to Southern California and enrolled at the Pasadena Playhouse and then went on to study acting at Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio with Dustin Hoffman as one of his classmates.
Soon he broke into the film industry appearing in such films as, "She Freak" (1967) with Claire Brennen, Lee Raymond and Lynn Courtney, "Deliverance" (1972) starring Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty, "Junior Bonner" (1972) starring Steve McQueen, Joe Don Baker, Robert Preston, Dub Taylor, Barbara Leigh, Ben Johnson, Don 'Red' Barry, Mary Murphy and Ida Lupino, "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" (1972) starring Paul Newman, Anthony Perkins, Jacqueline Bisset, Victoria Principal, Tab Hunter, John Huston, Stacy Keach, Michael Sarrazin, Roddy McDowall, Ava Gardner, Richard Farnsworth, Anthony Zerbe, Matt Clark and Jack Colvin, "For Pete's Sake" (1974) starring Barbra Streisand, Michael Sarrazin and Estelle Parsons, "The Parallax View" (1974) starring Warren Beatty, Paula Prentiss, Hume Cronyn, Anthony Zerbe, Earl Hindman, William Joyce, Jim Davis, Jo Ann Harris and William Daniels and "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" (1974) starring Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy, Gary Busey, Vic Tayback, Catherine Bach, Jack Dodson, Gregory Walcott and Geoffrey Lewis, a role for which he won his first Oscar.
Along with making quite a name for himself in the film industry he also appeared on a variety of television series early on in his career such as, "The Monkees" and "Alias Smith and Jones".
As his career progressed he alternated between film and television work. Other television credits he added to his resume were appearances on, "Columbo", "Ironside", 'Mannnix", "Kodiak", "Sara", "Father Murphy", "The Master", "Legmen", "Cover Up", "Murder, She Wrote", "Baywatch", "Pointman" and "Hunter" among many others.
Along with his successful career as an actor in the 1990's he also became involved in the singing entertainment industry releasing an album composed of country & western music.
Bill McKinney married only once to Jenell Booth in 1967 and this marriage only lasted one year. He never re-married nor did he have any children. He remained working as an actor with his final appearances being in the films, "How Do You Know" (2010) starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson and "The Custom Mary" (2011) with Alicia Sixtos, James Jolly, Travis Hammer and Henry LeBlanc. McKinney passed away on December 1st, 2011 in Van Nuys, California after suffering from cancer of the esophagus at the age of eighty.
